Engine Cover Help Please!
« on: February 25, 2013, 06:23:58 am »
Hi guys

I have managed to sheer off one of the plastic holes that sits under the engine cover and as a consequence my cover is now rattling like crazy. I think that the holes are not  part of the top 'part' but the bottom part of the cover.

Does anyone have part numbers or diagrams to help identify how the engine cover/filter is all put together. Its an AXX GTi.

Thanks!

It's all one part mate. You'll have to replace the whole unit if it can't be fixed

I thought the bottom portion came apart but I suppose the holes at the bottom are linked to the top part. The 'FSI turbo' central bit comes apart as does the filter holder, so I just thought that maybe the bottom is a different part too. Will have to take it off and see!

I took two apart yesterday to make one good one.

It's in four parts. You have the upper FSI Turbo piece that doesn't need removed, there is the intake scoop with the springy clip that needs removed to split the cover.
Then if you flip it over the cover splits into two when you slacken all the torx screws. At this point you can swap out your damaged bottom section.

I'm sure these are one piece though when it comes to buying another one.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Thanks, I thought I was going loopy for a second as I was pretty sure it comes apart.

Didn't realise it comes as one part and VW won't sell me just the bottom portion that I need  :sad1:

I have a spare engine cover but one of the bottom holes is ruptured now I swapped them.
Only really good to chop up for an intake.

On the plus side, you can look for any A3/S3/GTI/Cupra/Octavia VRS 2.0 TFSI covers

I'm going to try and fix it first. Ordered some super strong hard plastic glue to see if I can get it to glue on. The things are so flimsy if I do get a new one, the next person to service the car will break it!

Not sure I want to loose the OEM designation inside the engine bay, seeing as everything else is pretty much back to stock now.

Sorry didn't manage to take any pics but used Bostik 808539 Evo-Stik Ultra Strong Rapid Adhesive from amazon.co.uk and reinforced the glue with silicone.

Its bonded beautifully. Going to leave it for several hours before refitting it to the car.

Think I will change the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor whilst I am at it too.
