After speaking to a supplier of PROPER carbon made badges yesterday i have asked them the possibility of creating the vw badge that sits on the bonnet of the gti in a carbon finish.
I recently came across this picture of the REAR badge and at first glance i thought it was proper carbon, it turns out it is only a transfer but the colours are correct and hence the query if this was possible in a solid carbon finish.
Here is the picture of the CARBON TRANSFER

This is obviouslly the rear badge but i am looking at the same colours for the front,
Due to my rear badge being a mk6 camera badge i would think i can only modify the actual chrome vw logo by taking it off and putting the new one in its place.
At this stage i am only enquiring about the FRONT badge to simplify things, if it is a possibility then the rear badge mod will come after and will be easier then.

I dont know the normal cost or even if any companies out there will do this colour / design for the vw and the company i am speaking to just now DOES NOT currently do any type of vw badge, neither do they currently advertise any stock on their web site due to recent problems with copyright infringement with Ford and a few other manufacturers.
What i am looking for is the front badge done in 2 colours of carbon, the chrome vw logo in black carbon as in the picture and the rear of the badge done in the red carbon - again as in the picture.
This will not be carbon vinyl / carbon transfer etc, it will be proper carbon which is then sealed in clear lacquer.
The owner of the company explained to me how they make the carbon, i aint got a clue but from what i remember it is two and a half mm and is made with carbon material or something - sorry i cant remember the process.
I know carbon items can come a lot thicker but this would be pointless for a badge etc.
Bottom line is i will send the guy pictures of the vw badge tonight for size estimate etc and i will find out in a few days the likelyhood of him being able to create what i am after.

He uses CAD system or something to create the templates before printing them out and them creating the carbon shape,,, that's my technical knowledge over now lol.

Important part here, the cost for a complete front vw badge ( thats the chrome part and the black holder ) will be  / should be under £100.
Now i dont know how that compares to other carbon companies but seems a good deal to me.
If he can create the template on his system from my measurements and also the front badge i will post to him for a trial fitting, then once my badge is complete i can show anyone who is interested in the quality / finish etc and he will then have the design stored on his system for anyone else who would want one done.
The colours of carbon i guess will just be your own choice,,, also at this stage i will be able to give you an exact cost for the badge.
If you wanted to then order one i will just post on the thread the companies contact details and you can do the order yourself.
The guy seems really keen to create the badge for me and has asked me to try and find out on the forum if other people would possibly be interested.
I personally do not know how they create these things, do they replicate the whole badge ?? and if so what about the fitting clips ?? will the vw badge on top be permanentally attatched to the holder ?? i have only spoken once to him although a few pm's have been going back and forward.

He cannot give me a cost at this stage but has assured me that it will not be as much as £100,,,,, possibly £60 i dont know yet.

With regards to the rear badge which i will work out with him later, i at this stage think the chrome vw logo changed to proper carbon with maybe a decent quality carbon sticker on the inside,,, seems easy enough.

If you have any questions please ask and i will do my best to find out,,,, most importantly if you MAY be interested in getting one of these made for your car PLEASE LET ME KNOW so i can maybe tell the guy that 10 or so people may want to buy one,,,, THIS IS NOT A GROUP BUY BUT ONLY A VOTE OF INTEREST.

Excuse any spelling mistakes my 4yr old son is on my shoulder snoring away lol

i'd love one on the front but the badge itself is too easy to remove...it just needs to be turned 90 degrees IIRC..
too expensive for some scumbag to just rob it soon as i leave it unattended anywhere

Looks good Scott. This can be achieved by Water Transfer Printing also. The item is then lacquered. Loads of places doing this now, such as these peeps...

Clicky here

The results are incredible, have a look through their gallery, few peeps on here have used them IIRC and not expensive.

The front badge can be removed from the outside by twisting it CCW about 30 degrees, but more often than not the tabs will break and render the badge useless.
That is a damn fine piece there....both for the front and back ;p

It's easy enough to secure the front badge from the back once you have the front grille off (which is the best way to change the front badge anyway).

Cheers guys, i guess even if i secure the badge from the back they would still destroy it by pulling it and trying to drag it out of the space.
I will check the link above, thanks for the tip.
Beastie boys fault all this lol  :rolleye:

Sorry about this being my first post but I have been made aware fo this photo by a customer. That Badge is the the one that sits on the back of my Golf 4motion v6. I am the owner of AquaGraphix (www.aquagraphix.co.uk) and I did that badge! The photo has been taken from our facebook page or website and a number of "New Businesses" have been using it to promote their work. I have no problem with it being posted on this post due to the context so dont worry, but I do have a problem with businesses using it. Although I do find it flattering in a way.
Anyway, I dont want to spam this post but  i'm here now! If you send us a badge you can have one the same for around £25, we will also discount for group buys as long as its the same part, colour and pattern. We have a large professional tank and can process most parts as long as they fit in the tank (2mx1m)
Find us on facebook www.facebook.com/aquagraphixuk like our page and have a look at the pics and there are a couple of videos there too.

Hi, small world isnt it
I hear what you are saying about the use of your pics by other companies and i totally agree with you.
I guess it's a compliment as you say,
I was as the thread suggests looking at proper carbon apposed to a transfer but its been brought to my attention that it will probably encourage someone to pinch it so i dont want my front grill damaged.
I would be interested in getting the badges done by you if that is possible, esp when you have a golf and you will be familiar with the badge layout etc.
My rear badge is actually a mk6 camera unit so i dont think i can take it out so if i am understanding this correctly i would only be able to send you the chrome vw badge off the back for the carbon process ( correct me if im wrong about my thinking on that ).
As for the front, i have a normal mk5 badge which is 125mm wide if i remember right.
Can you do the same colours as your picture with the front badge ? i would prob buy a spare one to send to you so i have my original one just in case it gets stolen.
It would need to be seperated obviouslly so you can wrap it but the last one i tried to seperate from the black backing got damaged as it's difficult to get it off without breaking a clip or two.
Assuming you dont have a spare complete front badge if i sent you a complete one would you be able to seperate it for wrapping and do it in the colours as per your picture.
Just to confirm that would be the complete front badge and the rear ( mk6 ) chrome part needing done.
If you have any tips on the rear ( black underneath ) part which i wont be able to send you that would be great, at the moment im thinking off the stick on carbon stickers which sell on e-bay for a few quid although i dont know how good the quality is.
Once again apologies for using your pic but i didnt know who owned it,,,, it is very nice though.
Feel free to either pm me or put a reply on this thread incase anyone else is interested.
Many thanks
Scott

I would think it would be possible to get the camera badge apart, it was made from bits in the beginning! You could send it to us to see if it comes apart and if it doesn't we can get the same look with some careful masking. As long as the electrics are removable or waterproof it will be fine. This is far superior to a wrap, it wont peel or bubble, the pattern is etched into the basecoat. The basecoat can be any colour as the silver pattern sits on top, in the picture it is the same pattern used on both the red and the black. It is all coated in 2k lacquer for a glass like shine. No problem to send us the badge for dismantling, we can do that for you.
This badge pic is all over the internet, funny thing is, whenever I find it and post something it always generates a sale so I suppose it isn't all bad. May I ask where you came across it?
Take a look at our photos o the facebookpage www.facebook.com/aquagraphixuk to see other things we do, its not just badges!
