Methods to determine BHP

Stupid question and I think I know what the answer is going to be but here goes. Is there a way of determining the Bhp and torque figures without going on a rolling road???

You could use the best known process. As in, what are people achieving with similar/same mods to yourself.

i had a scangauge unit on my old polo. When i got it remapped the guy said it will be 110bhp from 75.

I had the scangauge set to bhp mode, and just floored it in each gear, the number went up to 111.

So im guessing my car was pushing 111bhp

Thanks, reason I ask is my new gti feels ALOT quicker than my old mk5. I wondered if maybe it had a map on that I didn't know about. However, I bought it from a Vw dealership and would have thought it would have been cleared. Was just seeing if there was a quick way to check bhp. Nevermind ill get it rolling roaded when I get it mapped myself

There is some wizardry that can be done using VCDS I think. Ive yet to try it.

Plot maf and rpm, I've got an excel document that can output the estimated flywheel hp and torque at the sampled VCDS points and outputs a nice little graph :)

Log the MAF during a 3rd or 4th gear run... find the peak value and divide it by 0.8

Is logging the maf an easy precedure using vcds?

Open in Excel, when you have your VCDS RPM and MAF data, enter into the Yellow columns, then take a look at your dyno graph

No probs mate, interestingly from that graph above, the standard GTI makes around 100bhp at 3k RPM and 200bhp at 6k RPM, a simple stage 1 is making 160bhp at 3k, and 200bhp at 4k -  The Ed.30's Stage 1 make about 200bhp at 3k!
