Alpine INE-W928R monster finally installed!Big thank's to Squeeguk!

First of all I must give a huge thank you to Squeeguk(Luis!) who bent over backward's to make sure I was happy with the unit I had purchased from him,I had the unit delivered to me and then taken to my VW installer who had the car for 2 day's because for some unknown reason the system would shut down after 5-10 min's after being switched on.I quickly contacted Luis who promptly had Alpine pickup the head unit and test it at the Alpine return's dept only to find there was nothing wrong with it!Anyway Luis once again came to the rescue taking his own RNS510 out of his car and testing it to make sure it was 100% working and then paid out of his own pocket to have the unit returned to me,i'm a lazy git as I used to install all this sort of stuff myself and today I just said sod it and here's how it went....

It's a plug and play job with Alpine's fitting kit,my steering wheel button's will have to be programmed in for them to work as it's a MFSW from a MK6 as you can see but i'm sure it's a 2 min job with vagcom if you know what you're doing,just to go back to the Alpine the sound quality out of the factory fitted speaker's blow's the RNS510 away I kid you not,it took me more time to fit because the mounting case it sit's in has to have some of the plastic surround cut away for it to sit flush,i'm well chuffed!Luis where are you buddy need to thank you again!

with the mk6 steering wheel in and it iS excellent up grade

It's's all included in the Apline fitting kit which includes the steering wheel control adaptor interface and even displays everything on the MFD!I

Hey Sanj, Looks so good fitted in the car mate. Glad it all worked out for you in the end and that all is well. Sorry we had to go through all the hassle to get to this point.

You're so right about the sound quality over the RNS, hence why mine is up for sale now. After having your unit in the car, I will never be satisfied until I get mine in, lol. With my system not setup for the Alpine, I could hear a massive difference straight off.

It does look so well integrated in the dash with that kit and that massive 8" screen too and seems to give more info in the FIS display than the RNS????

Hi Luis,I could'nt be happier with the unit,the look's sound and quality are second to none,it was a bit of a pig to get the system into the mounting cage as you have to cut away some of the plastic surround to get it to sit flush but I managed it!Thank's once again and you will come highly recommended from me as your service and before and after buying the head unit from you has been perfect!Just one last question,is there anyway to use the VW sharkfin GPS as the one which come's with the unit doe's the job but I would much rather use the VW roof mounted one instead as it look's like it's a straight swap with a little bit of a trim.

Thanks for the kind words mate. It was an absolute pleasure dealing with you and your patience was awesome throughout.

With regards the GPS antenna, let me check with Alpine Tech on Tuesday morning and get back to you. I know the plugs are different, but you would think that with a little cutting and splicing you could make it work, as a GPS antenna is just a GPS antenna.

Can't wait to sell my RNS and BT kit so I can through one of these in the car...........
