Right, so Im at work on a night shift  my mind is wandering & iive pretty much read all the build threads already!

sooo....

If you had 5 grand, and 5 grand only to buy you a car in this day and age that would have to last you for the rest of your days what would it be...

must be a car that was produced in the last 20 years....

I'd forget forced induction, would have to be NA. 
It then depends whether it needs to be frugal or not.
If so, probably some Jap crap.
If not probably a nice straight six BM.

Honda Intergra Type R in DC2 form, Owned two of these a few years ago and they are a bery hard car to beat handling wise for the money!
