Sorry to hear this, I know exactly how you feel - well worse as we got broken into for the key.

Be careful buying anything until you have the payout, if the car is found before they payout then you could get the car back (if its not damaged or can be repaired).

They will tend to work on 'book' value - just had a quick look as I have access to Glasses,

I haven't got the cash to buy a replacement GTI until the insurance pays out

I will need more than book value to buy a replacement car locally - I have a bunch of autotrader ads at the ready and I know from experience never to accept the first offer.

I want a dealer car with some warranty, (and the option to extend), belt and pump done, 4 premium tyres, parking sensors and in good condition all round - more like £7.5k.  I'll probably get a 5 door car, makes it easier to get bikes in the boot :)

Sorry to read this. As said don't let it put you off getting another. It's just one of those things.

Just think on the upside you get to go car shopping. The best kind of shopping there is!!  :happy2:  :driver:

If your car is modded I assume they would go on book value plus the mods?

Would you need invoices to prove the cost of mods?

Ok need to double check. When I went with Brentacre I did mention I wanted the mods covered but need to see if its like for like.

My stepsons dad had his Scirocco stolen!  The cheeky bleeders went in the house while the manchester derby was on and lifted the keys while they were watching in the other room!!! His partner has a Tts so police recon they were after that!!! Propper scum

As could be anticipated, the insurance company are playing silly buggers.  I have rejected their offer, they have refused to up it, now being escalated.  I can't actually find a car  of an equivalent spec within 100 miles of London for the money they are offering but they don't seem able or willing to accept this fact, despite adhering to a policy of indemnity.  They are going to send an interim payment for what they have offered (so I can buy a car) but not close the claim

Pretty miffed now with it all!  :sad1:

As a cyclist, I don't use the car much in the summer (probably drive <50 miles a week), so am considering a run around to tide me over and then rethink in the autumn...

Might stick with VAG   http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201303285992479/sort/default/usedcars/colour/green/price-to/3000/model/lupo/make/volkswagen/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/postcode/sm12ju/page/1/radius/20?logcode=p  :signLOL:

I guess Mk5 GTIs will only get cheaper as time goes on (unfortunately for owners).  I would recommend ensuring that those with rare / modded cars get an agreed value in place even if the insurance premiums go up
