My mate has always been into his scoobys and evo's... they are monsters when tuned right, but you get so much bad attention even when your not flogging them (plod) that I'd find it tiring.  It's nice to have a car with some poke that doesn't shout about it everywhere. :surprised:

Not so good on MPG but what the heck, awesome cars.

3-4k service around 120-150 i think my mate said. That included the YAW fluids.

My brother in law had a brand new evo 8 fq300 and it had to have a new clutch and gearbox (under warranty) before it was 2 years/ 15000 miles old so be careful of that! The dealer said at the time if it wasn't still under warranty it would have been a £10k job!!

I had a 400/400 evo 6 before my eddy.

There good cars, raw power and just brutal when tuned to that level on the road.

Personal opinion-
-the fuel costs ruined the 'evo excitement', running vpower all the time you certainly get to know shell staff!!  :happy2:
-servicing isnt that bad, join the MLR, lots of traders who do deals on such things and it doesn't hit the bank hard!
-they get lots of attention and sometimes from the wrong people! (Arses always wanting to boot it)

Many other things but bottom line would I have another......yes lol   would I have one instead of a tuned mk6 golf r.....no

great driver cars but

-interior is as bad as it gets
-you will hardly see fuel consumption above 18 mpg in real life
-might attract wrong crowd

If the above does not concern you Go FOR IT!

Buy once and buy right.

Was a serious consideration of mine before buying the Golf (wise head on).

They suffer from rust quite badly.  Check all arches and around glass and spoiler.  You'd want to steer clear of ones that are highly modified with little to no history.
Decide what tune you want to go for.  MR or FQ models (cant remember which?) have stronger bottom end I believe?  Also I think I was advised that the 5 speed boxes were weaker than the 6 speed boxes.
If you'd like some fantastic advice give Ewan a call at Clark Motorsport on 01467 631261.  They run Group N rally cars and service a large percentage of the north easts Evo's.  I get my Golf serviced there and had my Integra looked after by them while I had it.  Ewan was able to tell me all the pros and cons of all Evo's.

had an evo6 a few years back, stunning cars to drive but if you do anywhere near 10k per annum expect to know the petrol station staff by name

to be honest guys I think if you buy a fast car fuel bills shouldn't even enter your mind...there going to be high on all high performance cars a guess.
servicing costs seem ok  :notworthy:

reason I want one is to scratch an itch,  my eddie is fun but I feel goin for something more raw and violent is what I want right now, , dont get me wrong my eddie wasn't boring but its no rally monster so something loud and violent and grippy should sort me out I hope.
im going to buy a tdi for work so evo will be for fun mainly.

cant wait!

Jack aren't you selling your Edition 30 because you can't afford the finance on it?

I think you are seriously under estimating the costs of running an Evo. You really need to look into what you're getting yourself into. On top of servicing, Evo's eat tyres, a clutch will only last a few launches and AYC pumps can go pop at any time.

If I was buying an Evo, this would be the one:

My friend has had 2 evo's a 5(360bhp modded) and a 8 FQ MR 340(400bhp modded) ,both awesome examples and cars for that matter,a few ''small'' problems though 1:A massive amount of unwanted attention 2:MEGA sh*te fuel consumption !! those 2 reasons alone have always put me off

I was thinking about buying and looking at Subaru's and Evo's before I got my ED30 and every time I drive past one, or hear one coming from 2 miles away, or see someone driving like a total twat in one I thank myself for making the right decision.

Test drove both and would like to drive one or the other again at some point..........................but I'd be glad to get back in my Golf and drive home  :drinking:
