Front end knock when going over bumps
« on: April 18, 2013, 08:34:02 am »
Hi,

I have noticed that when going over bumps (speed bumps, potholes etc) at slow speeds, there is a knock coming from the front end.  It definitely does it when the front right wheel goes over said bump and I think maybe when the other side does too.

I thought it might be the droplinks, but when I was changing the wheels over the other day, I checked both sides and both appeared to be solid.

I did notice that both front springs move slightly on the strut - ie. I can twist them approx 5-10mm - this is obviously with no compression as the front wheels were off.  Should they move like this? If not, I'm wondering whether it's the top mounts at fault?

If not, any other suggestions.  I've heard about the subframe bolt fault and will check those...

Regards.

Sounds to me that top strut mount and bearing needs changed over. Part numbers are 1K2412331B and 6N0412249C im pretty sure......

I think springs are meant to move by hand if no compression to them so no issue there.
