Is it expensive to get hold of a VAG COM? I looked on the vagcom part of the site and i dont think there is anyone with one that is close to me in Surrey (near Kingston).

Cheers,

R

Well I picked up the RCD last night, all fitted and looking sweet  :jumpmove:

I really think it lifts the cabin and makes the whole car feel a nicer place to be, the main reason i got it is because i test drove the mark 6 and it really stood out, also my other one was on the blink, i'm sure there's been a thousand potos of these but here are a couple anyway...

Well annoyingly (and slighlty comically) I ended up winning another one on eBay too  :rolleye: so when it arrives i will be posting it in the for-sale section for £375, its also brand new from a passat cc being upgraded so should be just as sweet, watch the for sale section soon. R

Now that this unit has been in the car for a while, did you get the battery drain problem? Did you replace the can gateway?

I have just managed to get an RCD510 really cheap and don't know whether I will need a new can gateway or not as my car is an 05 plate too.

Cheers

Hi there,

No problems with Battery drain for me so far, so i guess its all ok, I think the can-bus thing is for non Gti's, or maybe just a way to scam more money out of people,

Cheers,

R

Battery drain is definitely an issue on some GTIs.  I installed the RCD510 into an 07 GTi with no problems however when I installed the same RCD unit into an 05 GTI  my battery would run flat,  if the car was not used ,  after about 3 days  . I had a new can bus installed a few weeks ago & its seems to have done the trick. But I  will only know for sure  when the car is parked  up for a few days.....
