« on: May 13, 2013, 09:12:34 pm »
Hi guys
I woke up this morning having dreamed that someone nicked my ed30  ....don't laugh
anywayz..wanted to know if anyone got any suggestions or tips on security devices..etc on the market which may help prevent getting nicked....it maybe that vw's are already quite difficult to break into and 'hotwire'...hence safe,,,just wanted your take on it.
cheers  :happy2:

Ive had similar dreams before - not a nice feeling!

i think you might need to look at it from a different angle. Modern cars a very hard to steal without the keys. So, perhaps look into how best prevent the keys being stolen for your house. Without giving too much detail, have a think about the current level of security around your house and consider addressing any shortfalls.

hope this helps

Rich

I had some dude in a van at the bottom of my drive the other night taking pictures of my ed30, when they seen me they bolted. Wondered if it was a bit like the " Eleanor" setup on gone in 60 seconds

Having recently just had a golf mk6 stolen I would advise everyone to be careful and add extra anti arsehole devices

Don't mess around with additional alarms tbh - Just something else to go wrong and unless it's installed completely perfectly you will have problems.
The stock alarm and immob is perfectly good enough.

Aside from hiding your keys you're just worrying yourself, it's very unlikely to happen and if someone is desperate to nick your car they will do so, with or without the keys.

I had a tracker on a motorcycle (Street Triple R fully specced kept outside in a communal parking area secured with ground anchor) and aside from drain the battery and the tracker company call me to say "your bike has been stolen" when it's actually ran flat on battery, it never was any use and to be honest I think it's a bit of a gimmick!

Besides if your vehicle was stolen, abused, used for a crime perhaps, or partially stripped/damaged, would you really want it back?

If you were serious about a tracking device you'd use a GPS and RF tracker that you buy separately and hook them up to web-traceable interfaces.. costing a lot less than the £400 or so for a regular tracker system fitted plus the £200 a year "subscription" to make the system active.

Outside of keeping your keys in a safe place you just get into a big circle of worry and paranoia.

I have my keys hidden and video surveillance on my driveway (we have 3 cars at our shared house) so benefits everyone, living on a main road. Outside of that, you have insurance.

thanks xjay1337
point taken about wanting to recover car if it was stolen...i guess after recovering it i cant expect it to be in the same condition as taken...
I think there is a bit of paranoia going on,,after all this thread started off as a dream and not as though someone attempted to nick my car..

As I have a disused garage cos the curb was never lowered i think this maybe the way to go...I've realized the the amount it will cost getting alarms and gps fitted etc, might as well get the pavement lowered and get a good lock on the garage door!

In our car the keys had been cloned. Going forward all ours have been physically immobilised as well

A couple of big dogs downstairs always helps you sleep at night with your car keys upstairs with you, if they get past the dogs (unlikely) they still have to face you, chances are with big dogs around they won't bother, due to noise/getting torn to bits  :happy2:

An Alsatian and a Dog De Bordeaux should do the trick  :signLOL:

In our case the car went in to a very very well known local vag tuner to have its belts replaced the very next day the car was driven off.
Said vag tuner are not being cooperative and when I spoke with them wqs rold to go away.
Police have cctv of car being driven past the house and there was no signs of forced entey I.e no glass outside house.
