« on: May 24, 2013, 06:40:05 pm »
Hi
Im really stuck
Ive read the guide on updating the firmware on 510s but every time i burn a disc with the firmware on it and put it in the head unit I get CD/DVD ERROR
Ive burn't 2 cd at the slowest speed and 1 dvd at the slowest speed and there good quality disc's I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong ?

If you've followed the guide then it should work but, just to double check:

Have you definitely burnt the disk from the extracted iso image correctly? There should be folders with files in on the cd/dvd if you have, if not their will just be the iso file.

When you go to put the cd in the RNS it should be switched off with car's ignition off, I.e. unlock the car, open the door and just offer up the cd to the RNS, it'll wake itself up and take the cd.

If this isn't working then perhaps you've been unlucky with your cd burning. Give it one last try with a different brand of disk using a different computer to burn it.

In addition to the above good advice, try changing your clock time format to the alternative one in your options list.

What version are you at now, and trying to update to?

If it is before 3810, and the new one is after 3810, then you need to do this one (3810) first to repartition the HDD.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Cheers for the pointers

The head unit is on a really old firmware ie press setup and no firmware info.
Im downloading 2760_all.rar and exacting a 2760_all.nrg file using a mac and burning with the OS
Ive used Verbatim cdr's and TDK dvdr's
I can open the cd on my desktop and theres a nrg file there so Im guessing thats right ?

unlock car, sit in seat, put cd/dvd in headunit, sit back and swear at said headunit ! so think Im doing everything right

I suspect that's the problem!
You need to burn the nrg (that's a proprietry nero format) image file to cdr like you would with an iso. If you have nero burning rom installed then open it, recorder>burn image and point to the nrg file on your hdd. If you don't have nero then use a free image burner like ImgBurn to burn the file to cdr.

Hmm, with ImgBurn you just choose "write image file to disc" For the source file,  point it to your downloaded nrg file and destination is your dvd/cd burner. You do not have to open the nrg file.
