Service history check
« on: June 05, 2013, 06:18:48 pm »
Hi

I've been in contact with a garage over the mk5 gti they have for sale and here's the cars service history:

Vw-feb 2008 at 10,000
Vw-August 2010 at 27768
Kwik fit euro-June 2011 at 33,630
Kwik fit euro-June 2012 at 43,863

Current mileage 54,000

Does this look as it should? I don't know what vw service guide is also what's putting me off is the Kwik fit part I've Hurd awful story's about them or are they just story's or would you avoid? The car is a 07 reg

Depends on what schedule it's on, if its time and distance it's every 10000 or if its long life it's 2years or 20000 iirc

I think you're reading far too much into it mate.
At the end of the day how hard is it do do an oil and filter change? :)
If you phone up and confirm the services have been done what's the worry? :)

At the end of the day if the engine seems OK then it probably is.

When you say Genuine Parts, you know that is stuff like FRAM/MANN etc... They just arrive at VW, they take them out of the FRAM box, and put them in a box that has a global and the words "VW" on it.

Piece of mind is a lovely thing.
Im always cautious when spending hard earned cash on a car. A Gti I looked at for sale at my local Toyota dealership, claimed all pads and discs were replaced by them and car given a full service, they also said the cambelt and waterpump was "recently" done at a specialist vw garage by previous owner .....

I never totally believe what the just the service books tells me, so I always try to do some digging about for receipts and info to back it up.

They were very accommodating tbh as they let me contact the previous owner about cambelt and waterpump (visited his house and took receipts away with me) and I also popped into my local VW dealers with the registration and vin number to check service and recall history.
They verified full VW serviced matched the book correctly however the coilpack recall had not been done and required doing for free asap....This info was all gathered before even paying a deposit to Toyota.
The pads, discs and filters Toyota used were all genuine VW parts and I ended up buying this Gti and had coilpacks done for free the following week!......oh and never had any problems in the 2 years since (touch wood)  :happy2:
3dr black 56 GTi, Rcd510 DAB + Blaupunkt sharkfin finally completed.....
