Brembo Calipers from Cayenne on MK5 Gti Edition 30
« on: June 24, 2013, 03:59:18 pm »
Hello,

I found people with mounted brake calipers from Cayenne on their Gti.
Calipers have 6 pots, my 1 pot ^^ So I think I'm going to head into the steering wheel  :drinking: :drinking:

Theses Calipers have 2 models :
17z for 17" wheels, 330mm rotors
18z for 18" wheels, 350mm rotors > the model I found at very nice price  :P

I would like to know if someone here makes this upgrade here please ?

Here is actually my shopping list

Brembo 18Z calipers from Cayenne > 18Z BREMBO
Drilled 350x32mm discs drilled > ZIMMERMAN 400.3649.52
Stainless steel brake > Searching for the correct model
Dot 5.1

Is there something missing ?
I do not understand everything about screw and other on Dutch boards ...
Can someone help me please ?

Regards :notworthy:

Seen it done a few times, you need these bolts to mount them to a MK5 hub..

I don't know how the master cylinder copes though?

I'm wondering if the rotor hub offset differs. I've only seen modified rotor hubs for this set-up. I hope to be wrong, but something to know beforehand. http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_V--2.0T/Braking/ECS_Stage_5/ES7366/

Eager to know myself... because I'd definitely begin looking at wrecking yards more often if it is a direct swap for both the calipers and the rotors ;p

Thanks for answer.

About Rotors hubs, I will need 2 hub centric rings (OD 67mm and ID 65mm)

I found some informations here but I do not understand everything ...

A note about running Benz rotors

Benz rotors have a different inside hub diameter than VW rotors. The Benz hub diameter is 67mm. The VW hub diameter is 65mm. You need to run a spacer to fill that gap. If you do not run the spacer you will get wobbles at certain speeds that feel similar to your wheels/tires being out of balance. Almost all cars these days are hub-centric so the rotor needs to sit securely on the hub, the lugs will not accomplish this task sufficiently you have to run the spacers. These spacers are available in plastic and metal. I would only run metal because brakes get very hot and could potentially melt the plastic. I bought a pair of aluminum spacers from John for $10 which was a great deal. The cheapest I found them online was $20. The ones he sent me fit however they stuck out farther than the hat of the rotor so I had to grind them down flush with the face of the rotor hat. I did not take a picture of these and I apologize. If you snap the spacer into the Benz rotor you will see what I mean. Mark the excess with a sharpie, grab it with two pairs of pliers and grind it off with a bench grinder. Its aluminum and aluminum is soft, be careful.

Stock rotor "set screw" hole

Then, I do not know if I will need or not to put some spacers because of the Entraxe of 18" wheels (offset)

That's a real good write up. I knew there where some slight adjustments needed, but for the most part it was nearly a direct bolt on. I would opt for the proper rotors and avoid a rotor to pad mismatch. Hope all goes smoothly for you.

Ive got these centreing rings and discs in stock.

The only sensible engineering solution to the centering ring issue is to take the centre bore of the disc OUT to 68mm and then create a centreing ring that is 1.5mm wide instead of 1mm. Dont forget the ring is only that thickness at the top as it has to taper to cover the Rad a the bottom of the spigot.

whilst the disc is clocked up we give it a new countersunk mounting hole to match the VAG hub. The end result is somethig which is in essence OEM.

Got to love the forums where theyre telling you to grind stuff away to get it to fit.....

For reference set of drilled discs from me is £208 plus VAT with all the processes included including drilled faces

Those shimmed bolts arent great either, we made our own shoulder bolts from EN16 which has a rolled tensile strength of 70 tonnes coming back to 55tonnes when machined and plated, they had a proper step down from M16-M14 with fine thread pitch and lock nuts..

just my £0.02
