Getting to the end of my tether...
« on: July 03, 2013, 08:27:50 am »
I'm not sure how much more of my VW dealer I can take!! RANT ALERT!!

They agreed to change my ill fated mk5 GT for a mk6 Golf, I have decided to go back to petrol and get a GTI.
So the first week they agreed this, they had one actually in stock, to the exact spec I wanted, but they faffed about, and it got sold.
They then found one at a sister dealer, we agreed on a deal, but it turned out to have had a front end smash, so that was a no go.

I emailed them with a list of cars last week, and didn't hear a thing back. I then called my contact at the dealer on Monday, and he said they had taken in a mk6 GTI, but it was a 3 dr, I really need a 5 dr, so that was a no go. I asked him if he could "swap" it for one of the cars at the other dealers, that I emailed over to him last week. He said its a possibility, but "its end of month, end of quarter, so the other dealers won't have time for him" blah blah blah!

Other than calling these dealers myself, and asking them, I don't know what else to do!! I've found the cars, and emailed them over to him, what more can I do!!???

I am slowly losing the will to live and want to be in my car :(

(oh, for the record, my mk5 GT is in their garage, broken, whilst I have a Polo on loan, and I am still paying for the finance!! Go figure!!)

Sorry, tea and biscuits all round!!
Lx

I would visit them every day to enquire how the search is going on,regardless if they say they will ring you.

Well, last time I spoke to him he basically said "don't call us, we'll call you!" Its been nearly 3 weeks since they agreed to exchange!!

Consider giving VW finance a call, several people I have known have spoken to their finance company which has helped 'expedite' any issues they were having with getting dealers to fix faults with cars they were paying for

I have thought about getting the finance company involved, as I have heard that they are just as responsible as the dealers when it comes to issues like this.
VW HQ are involved, but even that trail has gone a bit cold.

I wasn't sure if I was being a little impatient??

Mate your defiantly not being Impatient from my dealings with various company's and main dealers, they are useless and don't care to be honest. It's not there car so they don't care, getting a call back from them is near on impossible. Once they have your money end of then its for you to fight it.

I had my car repaired under the paint warranty only to be messed about for two weeks nearly doing a small patch on my bonnet, I then forms my bonnet leaning against a wall chipped on the edges was not happy they only touched them in aswell even after arguments

I have just checked, and the car they offered me is now for sale on VW website and the car I suggested to them that is at another dealers, has been removed from the for sale list, so unless in the last 24 hrs, a deal has been done, and he has yet to tell me, looks like that car has sold too!!

I just want to call him up, and tell him to pull his finger out of his ar*e and do his job. He keeps telling me "his buyer is looking for a car"... well, I am also a buyer for the company I work for, and if it took me THIS long to look for a part I wouldn't have a job... especially as I have sent them details of available cars!!

I sell cars for a living (we are not all scumbags so please don't hold it against me) Iv worked for big German brands for many years and have an inside knowledge of the workings of a dealership. From reading between the lines it looks like you have bought a car from this dealership, it's had issues, the dealership has tried to fix the problems, you have lost faith in the car and want a different one?
What I'm about to say is likely to be the process the dealer is going through so please don't jump on me - its just the way it is.....
By the sounds of it the dealer is not sure the car is worth what it owes. VW tend to put high GFV on cars if purchased on PCP which makes getting out early tricky. If its on HP how far through the term are you.  Could you voluntarily terminate the car under 1/2's and 1/3rd's?  Depending on the dealer will depend on how knowledgable their business managers are.
If the dealer does not have in stock the car you want to replace for (I'm assuming its an approved vehicle as its a mk6 you want?) they will have to find one in the network somewhere. They will have to basically purchase that car from the other dealer to supply you so is not a case of a straight swap. If the car found has no money across it and they need to over allow on your mk 5 they wouldn't do it as they couldn't make the figures work.
You may also be part I internal politics. By this I mean the service department are arguing with the sales department regarding costs etc.
I presume your contact is the salesperson who sold you the mk5 - or someone on the sales team? If so it is unlikely they will get paid to sort this out - salespeople do not make the kind of money people presume we do. Iv been working for £35 commission a car for years! Unfortunately it sounds like they are too worried about getting to their target than spending time to sort you out.
I need to know the whole situation to be able to really help but don't have the post count to PM you - if you would allow me to spam your thread ill PM you my mobile and hopefully be able to help you. I do have a good friend who is at a VW garage who would be happy to sort something out. Like I said at the beginning not all dealers are idiots and not all salespeople are money grabbing so and so's.

MateyGuv, I appreciate your help. I don't want to screw anyone over, and I totally know they still want to make their cut!

Long story, short version:

I bought the mk5 in Feb 2012 from my local VW dealer. Paid full asking price (13k), with 5k on finance over 3 yrs (half way through that now).
We drove the car away, and a week later both rear tyres needed replacing due to flat spots. After a lot of back and forths, they agreed to pay for one tyre.
6 wks later, the turbo went, and needed replacing. Again after a lot of emails back and forth to the warranty people, they agreed to replace.
Then the car started to misfire, idle high and stunk of burning soot... all pointing to the DPF (it only had 40k on the clock) It went back and forth to the dealer quite a few times, the occasional exhaust sensor was replaced, but still suffered with the same problems. Then engine lights and DPF lights started flashing up on the dash, still no one would repair the car, just kept fobbing me off. Then Feb 2013, the warranty runs out. I told them enough was enough and I want the car fixed! They then said the manifold was to blame, so replaced that, but still no change to the car if anything it got worse.
Leading up to today, with the engine management, DPF, and coil light all flashing on the dash, and about 4 weeks ago, it went into limp mode. I left the car with them last week, telling them I can no longer drive it whilst in limp mode on the motorways, its too dangerous!

So this is where I am now. No car, but still paying finance, and no closer to a replacement car (which they offered to do) They said it will cost them 2k to fix the car, as now they say it is the DPF (although they first said it wasn't!) BUT servicing called me yesterday and said they replaced yet another exhaust sensor, and its fixed the car... I don't think it has, but to be honest its all too little too late! So now, if they have "fixed" it, it won't cost them 2k to get back on the forecourt will it!

So, that is my short version (!!).

I agree!! We paid about 2-3k over the odds, but knew we were, and we wanted to buy from a dealer, as you get "looked after" more... ?? They say the car is worth £7600 now, in tip top condition, trade :(

So in a year you have lost half buy the time you add intrest on. Yep I defiantly wouldn't be happy it's hard though unless you know the trading laws inside out and can go back with a formal letter. Maybe worth paying a lawyer into that sort of thing even if it cost 200 quid for one.

Well if you can do that sort of thing, I have just been shafted over coilovers I bought over a year ago I got no were to be honest.

Well, according to CAB, I could be entitled to a full refund, plus the value of my PX car, but as its not so clear cut, I cannot be sure of this. I have been messed about so much with this car, one technician says its fine, the next says its a manifold, and the last says its the DPF, and will cost 2k to fix! I first reported the problem over a year ago, and I am no better off!!

I am literally pulling my hair out, as I just don't know how much I can push the dealers, before they tell me where to go. They offered to exchange the car for "newer model, mk6", but all they want to do is a normal part exchange, as in, they give me £7600 for my car, and I pay the rest for the new car. Apparently, they are doing ME a favour by giving me full PX price for the car, considering its condition!! WTF!!!??

Exactly, and if the car was perfect, I wouldn't be looking to replace it for another year or two, but now I have no option but to replace it and to pay out another large sum of cash just so I have a car that works!
