If you wanna save money go for the diesel.  If you want performance then go for the ed30

TBF I think the Ed.30 is waste if you don't at least Stage 1 it... I'd simply grab a standard GTI as the performance isn't that much different for the extra cash; it's when you tune them that the K04 really stretches it's legs and out performs the K03...

By that time MPG is a by product   even though you can get late 30's from these cars, in reality you'd be mid 20's having fun, and teens when your REALLY having fun. :innocent:

Use to own a mk4 anni pd, average 39.89mpg over 13k that i recorded it, owned it for 5.5 years. Had the ED30 DSG for 18mths, averaged 25.86mpg over 10,079miles spending £2,528 on fuel av £138 p/m.

My driving has mainly be town driving, it can quite easily read 33-35mpg on a run, with steady driving. My return trip to Inters at the weekend, including 5 trips up the strip averaged 26mpg and 313 to the tank, before i nearly ran out 10 miles from home  :signLOL:

I do feel that the ko3 in the GTI is easier on fuel as i also own an 07 Leon fr 2.0t and i can easily get 36-38mpg on a run, chooice is yours.

You only live once, life is too short  :happy2:

MPG is over rated. Buy a car and enjoy it. An eddy won't cost the earth to run.

Thanks for all your responses/advice, its been really helpful!

work is less than a mile from me so thats not really an issue, i do a lot of photography which is where about 70% of my mileage is and what i also failed to mention is that the longer runs tend to be with friends so the fuel is normally split 2/3 ways

most of that is either blasting through the peak district or cruising 120 mile down the motorway to snowdonia or the lakes etc, which is why i've always gone for the quicker diesels, good on the motorway and also a bit of poke when i want to have a bit fo fun

As for the normal gti, i recon id love it for a bit but then regret not going for the  more powerful option of the ed30

I think im just going to have to go for it!  :driver:

lets face it if i was change my mind in 6 months i can always change back!

now then... which colour  really fancy a red one but not too sure if the back end is too red...

Good choice. You won't regret it.

Here is the brochure:

Try not to be too picky, it might be a little while until the right spec and condition comes up.

You do realise that there is a third option...

If you like cars and can handle the extra £110 per month go for it !
I'd expect it wouldn't cost quite so much though looking at your mileage.
Since I've owned my car I've averaged 28mpg (stage 2+) although yesterday me the mrs and the wee one went for a day out to the loch for a swim and picnic - about a 90mile round trip - although for most of the trip we were stuck behind caravans an 40 - 50 mph so I just settled down and went with it on return I averaged 46 mpg which was a personal best!
Also a 450 mile trip down south returned 39mpg which may not sound that great, but trust me it was

A remap should help mpg as well I recon I gained 2-3mpg from a stage 1 map,

Plus IM0 you are getting one of the best GTIs ever made and a limited edition one at that with a great engine and one that holds its money well.

Yip I know, Came at a price though ! Following caravans and speed boats at 40-50 mph on one of the best roads in scotland  :sad1:

I'm quite impressed with this eddy on mpg, this is my second 2+ eddy and it seems to be getting a bit better mpg than my last one for some reason, maybe the revo linear throttle map gives a bit more mpg when you are not using the revs who knows ?
