Bonhams Auctions - Goodwood
« on: July 11, 2013, 10:07:01 pm »
My Dad is after a car in the auction so we went to the preview of the sale today.

Some nice cars, some great cars and then there are truly stunning cars including a £4million Maserati and world famous Juan Manuel Fangio’s Mercedes-Benz W196 F1 race car, valued at £10million plus. Bring on the auction, will update with the actual, achieved prices if anyone's interested.

Some pics...

Mercedes-Benz W196 - value £10,000,000

The Mercedes-Benz W196 competed in the 1954 and 1955 Formula One seasons and won 9 out of the 12 races it entered while being driven by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss. As a result, it was the winning car in two drivers’ championships.

Then the body was removed to give prospective buyers look underneath....

1955 Maserati 300S Sports Racing Spider - Value £3,500,00 - £4,500,000

1965 Ferrari 500 Superfast Coupe - Value £800,000 - £1,000,000

1913 Rolls-Royce 45/50hp Silver Ghost - Value £600,000 - £800,000

1953 Austin-Healey 100 Special Test Car - Value £500,000 - £600,000

1950 Allard J2 Competition Roadster - Value £150,00 - £200,00

^^^^ Some paintings of various classic cars (F1 and the like), some Classic F1 and Sports car memorabilia but mainly the Aston Martin DB6. He's had a DB2 GHC and a DB4, can't justify (or afford) a DB5 so a DB6 is the next best thing. Its the right colour (Silver Birch), interior (Black Leather), Manual, 4.2litre and "appears" to be in concourse condition.

EDIT:

If your interested, here's a copy of the auction brochure. Have a look at what the "well to do" do with their money....

^^^^ £19.6 Million with the buyers premium on top.  :notworthy:

My dad got his arse handed to him, "his" DB6 went for £147k inc the buyers premium. Everything (apart from John Lennons old Ferrari 330 GT) went for silly money, even the Lotus Cortina went for £183k.

Safe investments in these strange banking times means it is a popular way of investing at the moment.
