Passenger door won't open. What part?
« on: July 15, 2013, 11:02:48 pm »
After hours of searching various forums/google I guess my problem lies with the 'door locking mechanism'

Problem - passenger door will not open. Have tried inside handle, outside, unlocking with interior switch, banging the door, pulling handle while unlocking ect.
I can hear the mechanism moving when I unlock the door, but doesn't seem to want to budge.

I am aware that this is a very common problem and there's plenty of info available, but I don't want to spend money on a part I don't need or on the wrong part.

Is it the locking mechanism I need to replace or something else? If so what is the part number?

It's the door lock mechanism. I have the same with my drivers door. You could buy a cheap one on ebay, open it and solder the pins on the circuit board. These crack and that's why they stop working.

Part number is 3d2 837 015k although might be superceded.

And try everything to get it to open. Otherwise it gets expensive as the door skin will have to be sacrificed.

Is that the same part number for a 3 door?

My car is a 2005 gti 3 door

I'm not 100% sure, but it should be. Call your local dealer and ask for a part number and price - only way to be sure. :happy2:

Get the car scanned and see what the scan says - could be door wiring.

Check this list for someone who could help

Will it show any faults with the wiring/electrical system? Does it need to be done with vagcom or will any diagnostics machine show?

Been down and talked to my mate who is doing the painting and he said worst case we will cut a patch out of the skin to get to the mechanism and open the door. Then weld it back in....

Vcds will show the typical fault and you'll the able to instruct that lock to operate but nothing beats your mates answer - he's got the real tools if need!

This is worth a read

I'm going to buy a new module just incase (brand new £35 ebay jobby), when I get the old module out I will open it up and have a crack at fixing it. If it works I can send the new one back.

Fingers crossed.

I will do.

I'm not planning on modifying the car much as funds are quite tight for me at the moment. When I brought the car I knew it needed a bit of tlc but the door lock was a surprise to me.

Ill post a thread with some pictures of the stuff I do to the car.

So far its booked in for:
-Front bumper repair - small split and a little dented.
-Bonnet respray - had a very poor respray in the past. Looks like it has been sprayed with rattle cans and immediately had sand thrown on it.....
-Colour coded skirts, front splitter and back bumper.
-Gloss black rear diffuser and middle of front splitter. Possibly mirrors.
-Monza 2s refurbed and powdercoated gloss black
