What primes when opening the door...
« on: July 19, 2013, 08:53:22 am »
What primes after leaving the car a while when you open the drivers door... I know the LPFP is supposed to but thought that's in the tank so would come from mid/rear under the car, i was thinking more in the engine bay as think that might be whats causing the squeak I have...

Cheers,

Dom

The fuel system primes when opening the drivers door. Hence why if you are changing the cam follower with the battery connected and someone opens the drivers door you get covered in fuel

Edit - Or what Mike said

The internals of the fuel pumps(s) are the only things that "moves" - apart from pressurised fuel in the system, hence the advice above about doors and playing with your fuel system

I've heard something adapting/opening/resetting under my bonnet too sometimes, so your not alone. However, I don't know what it is. It certainly doesn't squeak too lol. Only hear it if its in the garage (nice and quiet)

I'm not Mike no. It's when cars been left for (cough ages), when I open it then open drivers door, if I don't start it straight away, I hear buzzing and clicking.

I thought it was the throttle body, but I maybe wrong.

Please tell me how the HPFP internals "move" when you open the door.... Given that its operated by the cam shaft rotating.
