Rev counter going up on its own- advice needed
« on: July 26, 2013, 12:11:39 am »
Hi, the rev counter seems to go up on its own when I am not pushing the accelerator and when the car is in neutral. Strangely this has started to happen after I went for a failed air con recharge- they said there was a leak so they couldn't recharge it.

Anyway any thoughts on what the issue could be? Thanks.

Sounds like a boost leak or a pcv issue

Update- went to an Indy garage who ran the diagnostic. They said it was the lambda sensors. They changed both. The engine management light came back on when I was driving it and it is still revving itself. Money down the drain. I am taking it back tomorrow. I take it the PCV valve doesn't show up on a diagnostic check?

I will just ask them to change it as well when I go back regardless.

NEVER take a garages word for it... i bet those sensors cost you an arm and a leg.

Always start with the "cheapest fix" first!

PCV!

Further update- went to vw- they are saying it is one of the injectors which is gonna cost a fair bit... I asked them to look at the PCV valve and the service guy said the mechanics didn't know what the hell I was talking about. Is the valve called anything else??

PLEASE STOP!!!!!

A dodgy injector doesnt sound right to me. Have you scanned it for faults?

Replace the PCV and see how you get on.

Do not replace the injector before youve done the PCV.

Also... i suggest that you find another garage. If they dont know what the PCV is then they shouldnt be trusted with your car.
