Tricky one.... As its not in the bathroom (specialist location) more falls under best practice... Would may be of put means of isolation further away and slightly higher than the mixers..
At the end of the day I can't see building control being involved if your just refurbing your bathroom.. If you do pop a seal isolate at the consumer unit..


to refer to "522.3.1 A wiring system shall be selected and erected so that no damage is caused by condensation or ingress of water during installation, use and maintenance. The completed wiring system shall comply with the IP degree of protection relevant to the particular location.
NOTE: Special considerations apply to wiring systems liable to frequent splashing, immersion or submersion." makes far more sense than giving a set distance.

Switch above the bath will be decent ip and low voltage no doubt due to being in zone 1.

As for spurs for control units, I take it from the pics that's in the loft, in which case how many houses have spurs next to the combi boilers sometimes under them and in cupboard next to immersion tanks or pipe runs in ceilings above light fittings. It's not somewhere that gets immersion or splashing unless in fault condition, which if any of you have had a pipe burst it will be running out of all the switches and sockets and light fittings. Install looks not bad I wouldn't mark it down.

Aslong as it has adequate protection.

Thanks Si... yes the bath control is low voltage (as is the shower) so can be placed in any zone. Thats the beauty about those things... you can place the bath control up to 10m away from the control box. I will also get a wireless push button remote for the shower so you dont have to get wet.... until you want to. 

All the bathroom elecs. are on an RCD and seperate 3A fuses (except the lights which run on the existing lighting ring). In fact, id go to say that the bathroom is the only room in the house that is wired up correctly and conforms to current building regs.

I hate tiling.. i done the bathroom walls and floor half of the downstairs for the dutch once upon a time and i swear down i'm never touching another tile as long as i live!!

Thanks Mikey. Tiling is a PITA. The bits that I did on the new plasterboard walls was a doddle, the rest of it was a total PITA.. hence leaving that to my Dad!!! 

Interesting that the extractor fan sounds a bit like the EVOMS intake on part throttle.

We were looking at doing work to the house a while back but have decided to buy a new build start of next year. when we were costing it she was like "why dont you do that bit and that bit yourself" (i'm a sparky to trade)..
I had to politely inform her that i hate doing homers and i hate "house bashing" so we would just be getting someone in! lol

How quite or noisy is the extractor, from inside the bathroom?

I want to link one up to a PIR so it comes on only when your in the shower

It's not too noisy really, it's the airflow you can hear not the fan itself.  I think it would benefit from some better ducting.

Ah ok, so i guess it sounds like one of those they put in hotels, where its a low 'sucking' noise you can hear (or maybe that's the maid under the covers )

I've been thinking about cladding my ceiling like you have done Rich.
How easy was it to go over the artex?
Can you give us all your tips please.

Fairly straight forward.

Wooden batons all around the room making sure they are level, screwed into the joists if possible.

Cross baton the room as you can just make out in this pic...



Then its just a stapling on the edging to all but one wall, and then cutting the cladding and sliding in... stapling it in place.

I guess the batterns would smooth any lumps & bumps in the artex.
Did the ceiling downlighters just fit into the battern gap (might give more fitting choice as no need to avoid joists), or did you need to cut big holes in the ceiling as well?

It looks like you fitted some plastic beading between wall & ceiling to finish it off and hide any gaps. Would'nt a silicone sealant have worked?
what was it and did you just no-more nails it up there?
