Your more than Welcome mate.

Regards the firmware just Check the Seals and as long as they are intact you should be fine

Carl :happy2:

The seals on the unit?

I'm unsure on weather to update mine. Its a second hand "off the back of a lorry" version B unit. I also think I may have the old gateway (07 reg).

The unit has a couple of security seals on it.

If it was factory fitted they will be intact or if it came froma legitimate source.

If it "fell' out of someone's dash board whilst they were asleep then it will have had the back opened up to Solder the EEPROM to reset the Security code. These units can't be updated as they brick when reaching 10% of the Can Gateway upgrade part of the Firmware flash.

If you open the unit up you will quite clearly see the solder on the EEPROM

See here :

EEPROM Solder

The guy that took those bricked his unit when updating to 2664 firmware (Same as 2660 just Skoda is 2664) and when we did some investigating this is what we found.

So I installed my RNS510 by torch light on friday night  :stupid: And I have currently not had an issue with battery drain, the longest ive left my car is 19 hours, can I assume I dont have an issue or should I be keeping an eye on it still?

From what I read on mygti http://www.my-gti.com/1101 I shouldnt have an issue with drain if my firmware is lower than 2660, is this true?

I have the following RNS510 fw version and can gateway info from VCDS:

fw 0900

Address 19: CAN Gateway        Labels: 1K0-907-530.lbl
   Part No SW: 1K0 907 530 F    HW: 1K0 907 951
   Component: Gateway         H10 0120
   Revision:   H10       Serial number: 28001056190129
   Coding: 7F3F0340070003
   Shop #: WSC 01279 785 00200

Can anyone help put my mind at rest?

Thanks for the reply Camel, its been sat without starting the engine now since Sunday so feeling much happier, although good to know that you and darren both think I will be alright.  Will eventually replace the gateway once I have bluetooth and microphone installed, but for the moment going to get used to my 900 firmware as it has all the features 1100 states and I belive HW03 units dont get SDHC support with 1200.

mmmm :happy2: ive got HW02 and sdhc 8gb card works fine although you have to format the sd card every time you put somerhing new onto the rns? Otherwise it says sd card error??

But when i put this new rns in i put about 550 tracks on at once and it was fine.

transferring 500 tracks in one go is the stuff of dreams!   Will have to pony up the cash for a new can gateway but will have to wait till next month at least  :sad1:

^ How longs it take to complete that copy process Darren?

It takes about 3 minutes for one 6mb mp3 on mine without the FW update :sad1:
