Help... GTI MFSW buttons
« on: August 30, 2013, 06:50:56 pm »
Hi all, I bought a GTI MFSW yesterday to replace my non MFSW normal round one. The 2X outside trim covers do not fit from my standard wheel on to the new one. (Clips in a different location). I've been searching but can't find where I'd get the trim covers with the buttons that would fit. I'm not fussed ATM that the buttons will literally be for show, as eventually I plan to get a module and retro fit it to work but for now I'd like ones that don't keep falling out. Any help on where I'd get some would be great!

Thanks, Stuart.

If you have a mfsw, why are you trying to put the trim covers from your old wheel onto it?

Hi Stuart,

Here's a place selling the MFSW buttons that will fit straight on, or sometimes you can find someone on Ebay selling a MFSW wheel for less with MFSW buttons;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-OEM-MULTI-FUNCTION-STEERING-WHEEL-BUTTONS-SWITCHES-1K0959537J-1K0959538F-/261236894532?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cd2eeab44#ht_1944wt_1018

This page also helps with fitting, etc;

http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/156872.aspx

I really don't recall the GTI blanks having different locations on the MFSW vs. standard GTI non MFSW, as I used the same wheel!

I will hunt around in the garage tomorrow for the original blanks off my GTI DSG wheel, in case these are the trim positions that are different to those on your 3-spoke standard wheel,

Cheers,

Dave

The non mfsw buttons just push on the the wheel, where are the dsg wheels that did not have the mf buttons had blanks in that screwed to the wheel - this is because there is a channel for the wires from the paddles to move through the wheel to the module at the bottom of the wheel.

Therefore you cannot fit non mfsw blanks to a mfsw

Thank you Dave, much appreciated. I will go through it all in the morning and hope to get some. As I said I'm not fussed if I have to have the buttons but them not working, I will just be happy to have the blanks there not falling out  :happy2: I didn't think they would be different, trust VW!

The wheel I bought from Dave J is a DSG MFSW, were as my original wheel was a 3 spoked non MFSW/DSG. As I say I will get what's needed to have it all working, it's just an eye sore to look out (though I'm loving it!).

Thanks all for your help :)

Oh right so you had a mfsw already? In which case the blanks you have should be the screw on ones anyway, and as dave mentioned they should fit as the steering wheels are the same, just flat bottom on the GTI one.

Upload a pic :)

Hi Stuart,

I've just found the wheel blanks that came off my DSG wheel - here are the pics;

Guess these are different to the clip on ones on your original non-MFSW wheel?

You can have these no problem if they will sort the issue out - let me know and I can pop them in the post,

Cheers,

Dave

Hi Dave, the rear of your blanks are much different to my originals so I think they would do it. I would massively appreciate you doing that.

I will PM you now.

Thanks!
