Kenwood DNX520VBT, info needed.
« on: September 07, 2013, 04:54:50 pm »
Hi, just wondered if any one here has any experience/knowledge on this head unit.
I'm looking to buy one soon, but I'm useless when it comes to the slang on specs on descriptions for headunits.

What is the DVD player like on these? Also, do these have also the ports required for sub/amp. Do these connect with iPhone? If so Does it play videos from iPhones? Will I need an extra leads?
With the PS4 coming out soon I will have a PS3 sat about doing nothing so I'm thinking of fitting that in somewhere, is there the aux ports for that? Does it also have ports for any extra DVD player for rear of car?

A lot of questions I know. But any help is great!!

One more thing, does any one know why there is such a price variation on eBay for these. I mean some new go for £1000, some £600, and used ones vary from £400-700. Slightly confusing!

Stuart.

There is one for sale on here about £380 I think. Worth it all day long at that price. My mate got one off ebay for a tad more, a lot of spec for the money but I don't like the interface. Not really had a play with it otherwise.

Lots of info on these if you google search, they fit a ton of VAGs
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I've spoke to him but it just pains me how far away he lives, Struggle finding the time making the 4+ hours round trip unfortunately!

I've had a google search and still just a few things I'd like clearing up, but thanks for the reply :-)

Hi Stuart,

I have one of these - I intended to fit it, but never got round to it, and then preferred the RNS510 unit. I fitted the RNS, even though I would lose the ability to play AVI files & DIVX videos, etc through the USB port on the Kenwood.

I need to have a read on the manuals again, but I think it has the aux ports for amps, etc.

It will play from an Iphone, but you will need a lead to plug from the phone to the front of the unit, which looked a bit ugly IMHO, but I think it is just a USB lead needed though...

In regards prices - some people are taking the pee, especially as the DAB unit is now out. I paid £650, at the time that VW dealers were still listing it at a grand!

Cheers

Dave

I got one of these recently off eBay £375 delivered excellent condition. I tried the DVD player and it is good but can't say I will use it much. Pretty sure it has connections for amp and sub on the back amongst others. IPod will work but with lead in front. I've put my music on a 32gb micro usb and left it plugged in the front you can hardly notice it. It will display album art which is cool but you need to embed the cover arm in each mp3 file.
