Time on clock racing

I went to look at a used GTI today, quite liked it however when I started the engine, the clock on the midline was going mad! The hours were continually racing like the button was stuck in. Has anyone had this problem before? Worried it may be a sign of a deeper electrical issue but then it could just be a simple button replacement. Anyone got any advice?
