Cambelt Change
« on: September 10, 2013, 01:58:17 pm »
Every bloody VAG car we buy in my family, doesn't have the cambelt changed when its due.  Why the heck do people buy such cars if they can't flipping look after them.  Cheapskate b**t*rds.  Sorry but it really gets up my chuff, when I come across people who don't have a monkeys about the performance car they are driving.

Anyhow, I've got a whole heap of work to do on this MK5 GTI I've just bought.  Its gonna have to wait at least six weeks, due to lack of funds.

My mileage is currently 37,200 and was hoping I could leave the cambelt for six weeks.  I'm worried as the car is now 8 years old and the belt could be getting quite old and crispy.  I did check for any squeaks or whines in the engine bay, pointing to any failing idlers / pulleys, but there were none.

The car was serviced exactly a year ago at Citygate VW Colindale and I really suspect if they actually really did an oil change as its quite brown.

My plan is to have this lot done in about six weeks;
40K service
DSG box service
Cambelt changed

Its gonna set me back a few quid as you can well imagine.

I wouldn't worry about the colour of the oil, as it does go dark pretty quick after a service. Did it come with any service history? The joys of motoring and servicing costs :drinking:

Well if people didn't buy them after they had been skimped on that would be a start to resolving the problem . It can't be that importnat to you as you bought the car anyway  :innocent:
