Oil Consumption GTI

Incidentally, I noticed this week that my engine oil consumption has gotten higher than usual, I have been driving a bit more aggressively so I think there may well be a link.

Panic over for now I'm told the diagnosis was extreme further advice means the new engine was abit extreme. They have a solution not sure what it is but they emailed me late last night.

Funnily enough in last 5 days its used very little.

Be gutted to lose this especially the spec it has as its all factory fit

I'd appreciate any help and advice please I got a 08 plate GTI 10 weeks ago it had 39k miles on it part exchanged after having an issue with a ed30. Anyway this one was fully loaded and fsh.

Thoughts and opinions please

It's a difficult one , the car sounds very nice 39k etc . The oil consumption seems very high for such a low miles car.

How did it compare

Did your ED30 have the same issue ?

My ed30 looked and drove really well however with less than 1/4 tank it would just cut out at any speed had it on vag com and couldn't find any fault codes

And in the fast lane and it happening time to get rid

The ed30 had no spec on it bog standard

The golfs standard with no mods planned and I'm happy with that I'm already looking at my next car mk6 golf R but would like to keep this one a years or so

Was it a straight swap ED30 to full spec GTI

Your new car sound a much better bet , I hope my car does not start doing random stuff.

Few grand going the other way the ed30 07 76k fsh but naked in spec immaculate inside and out in my opinion I'm enjoying the GTI more with all its toys and still puts a smile on my face

They have admitted that at time of purchase they put wrong oil in or as they said cheap oil had quorum long life oil plus fourtron additive have to check after 500 mile

Do you mean Quantum oil? Quantum Long Life oil is used by VAG group.

If it was 'cheap oil' then this is a separate problem and unlikely to be influencing oil consumption whether 5w30 or 5w40.

They used additive to try and conceal the oil consumption?

Yes sorry iphone spelling error have now done oil and filter change used the correct oil and a additive called fourtron since last week when it was done oil is still at max

Ok I thought you meant they admitted using it before.

I'm not sure I would accept using Additive as a solution but see how it goes.

So what would you ask as a solution

Refund or New engine.

Not sure if oil additives 'add' any value over a good quality oil.

Also this has now altered the test results, you need to watch the oil consumption with what the Manufacturer specifies the vehicle needs.

I haven't seen VW promoting oil additives either. This adds additional costs onto your servicing as well, it isn't your fault the car is consuming oil so should you really be responsible for these additional costs? I know the cost of Oil additive probably isn't much but it's more the principle in finding a proper solution.

I could be wrong but I don't think it is a viscosity improver like STP and similar, It reads as a ''friction improver' if that makes sense. So I don't think I would be concerned about it.
If the oil that was first put in -ie the 'wrong stuff' was a real cheapo and thus the viscosity quickly dropped to a very low number it could burn or just piss past the oil control ring. Or if it was  a really low viscosity oil say 0w 10, same scenario.
Monitor the level constantly, if it remains at the right level and there are no other worrying signs, its probably ok now .......

I have never heard of fourtron , should I be putting it in my car ?

Does it improve performance ?

Is this like slik 50 or zx1 extra lube ?

Is it part of a vw service , or do I need to specify this ?
