sudden drain battery drain(HELP)

hi
I have had my 57 plate eddie for about a year now I bought it from a former member on here, it came with a rns510 fitted by him and all has been well,
about 2 weeks ago the battery was flat it was the original so I replaced the battery, now if I don't use the car on a regular basis it's as flat as a pancake
I had 2 auto elec look at it and both of them concluded it was the rns 510, can this just happen all of a sudden, as it has been problem free for a year.
Is it a gateway problem or firmware. I wish I knew more about cars. :ashamed:

Have your circumstances changed lately, so you aren't driving the car every day or for shorter distances?

It is easy to point the finger at the HU, it could be the CAN gateway, the only way is to physically check the part humber on it or with a VCDS scan. If so you can revert the firmware to a non battery drain one but they are old now.
Would be better off with a new gateway from Eddie-NL really if that is the issue.

I am sire there was a guide for. Temporary fix, by swapping fuses in the engine bay. May have been jedi-knight83 that did the post if you search?

Did they check your alternator?

 thanks for your quick resonse, alternator is fine and yes im not using it as much now, but when I got back from holiday after 14 days it started first time,
2 weeks later this all started??????

Sounds like you have to correlate the link between current gateway part nmber and installed firmware.

Post up your location and hopefully someone close wi VCDS can do all this for you with a quick scan.

Has the stereo had any odd behaviours that show it could be failing?

If youve had the rns for a year and never touched the firmware then it must be something else.

Surely you would of had battery drain since day 1.

Get it scanned anyway with vcds just.to confirm what canbus and fw you have. Thats a starting point

Hello, I'm quite certain that your car would have the revised canbus gateway, which is at least a 'K' version.  Therefore the RNS 510 shouldn't be causing the battery drain.  Sometimes its the battery that has died and will no longer take a charge!

I've recently had to replace my battery as it wouldn't recharge any longer, even with a donor car attached for half an hour, the charge dropped straightaway after disconnecting the booster cables.  The car wouldn't even fire up with the cables attached!

Or a dud battery but its easy to find out which with a multimeter
