Private Reg £1000 Fine?

Hi everyone!

I have been looking into getting a private reg for a while now! And found a perfect one for me!

Only problem is that the spacing looks crap...

I know that if you change the spacing on your reg its a £1000 fine if stopped and you can fail your MOT, according to the DVLA.

My question is, if I change the spacing and wack two sticky back plates in the boot with correct spacing, if i ever get pulled, do you reckon that would cut it if i just put them back on and just leave them on?

I had no front number plate and got pulled.

Managed to talk my way out of it saying id put one on. But depends on your approach and the copper that pulls you.

I don't think you should do it, you just taking an unnecessary risk - but it's your money :pomppomp:

Personally I think it looks really tacky & sad when people modify plates by adding extra screws etc to try & alter the lettering

Very much depends on the copper and his/her mood at the time.  Most are nice people and will respond well to a good attitude, however like every area in society there are some bad eggs.

A few years back I was pulled for displaying no tax disc (it had literally fallen into the footwell) I stuck it back on and said I would get a new holder asap and was perfectly polite, but he was a complete A Hole (bad day I don't know), but fine me £30... WTF, I wasn't too impressed and made him realise it to, at which point he said if I didn't shut up he would do me for dangerous driving... WTF!!  Absolutely no evidence for that at all, but I did shut up, I was fuming by that point and was going to slam his passenger door as I left... but I just left it wide open instead, which made him have to get out and close it; lol, childish I know, but made me feel a little better.

By carrying the proper plates in the car may just show that you KNOW that you are breaking the law but doing it anyway, and could be worse than not having them at all... is it worth the risk, probably not mate. :happy2:  However, you could state that you've just bought them to replace the incorrectly spaced ones...

I agree, it does look tacky then, but let me explain. My name/initials are Vishal C T, and my nick name is Vish. The reg is V15 HCT. I want to rearrange it to say V15H C T or V15H CT.

And I know exactly what you mean. I do always show officers the upmost respect just because it doesnt hurt and they do do a good job... sometimes. Maybe if i didnt make to many massive spacing changes it would be less noticeable? I dont want to change the font or size etc, but add a space ;(

Also if you get pulled x about of times the police can apply to the DVLA to revoke the mark from you,

I've had my private plate on 3 different cars now.  My second name is WALKER & MY reg is W28 LKR but I've squeezed them up together and never had a bit bother. W28LKR

The spacing doesnt matter. It still says exactly what you want it to say. Spacing wouldnt bother me, as i still know what it stands for
