MK5 LIGHT DIMMER SWITCH not working

Hello

on my GTI MK5 i am not able to adjust the internal  dimmer switch it turn properly as well it is showing a ligh on , but when i turn it up and down the ligh is not changing is there anything to chek before i order a new one ?
