GPS Puck position. And other RNS Questions.
« on: September 28, 2013, 06:06:39 pm »
When fitting the RNS510 do you need to fit the GPS Puck on the screen so it has line of sight to sky or can you hide it away... Just wanted it to have a good signal.

Mine is under the top vents. There is a handy little hole to wedge it into!

Goes behind the vents above where the radio goes) and works fine there.

I fitted a RCD510 about 8 months ago which has worked fine without any coding... will i need to code anything for the RNS. car is a late 08.

The fella is telling me the unit is a version H is there any way of telling... and what Version of maps should it have on if it is an H.

It's not essential but you ideally should code the canbus gateway by checking the checkbox for navigation in the installation list.
Without traction power is nothing!

Is this essential to the unit working or will it not have all the functions, I do have MF buttons on the wheel but only a few work.. I think volume and scroll through the MF display... although i dont have a highline dash yet...

By including navigation in the installation list allows the compass to show up in your mfd next to the clock.
Without coding the unit, it should still perform without issue.

Well all went well today and the RNS is in and working  I ended up with a version P unit as the H version i went to buy looked like it had been well used... cost me another £50 but looked almost new so im very happy with it, The unit has a production date of 07-13 so i assume it should have the latest map's although it still could be behind... would anyone be able to tell if i put up a couple of shots of the info screen. cheers.

Hold the setup button for 10 seconds should give you a secret menu. If activated.  And it will say in there.

Thanks that good to know, It seems to have been VIM enabled but no speed camera's showing...

Been getting used to the RNS, One or two things that I could do with someone clarifying... I assume it uses the traffic information via RDS as now and then it changed the route saying that there are traffic problem ahead, Did this a few times but i took no notice and stayed on the route as i new where i was going (well kind of) the traffic did slow down but nothing that needed to be re routed off the motorway all around the houses then back on again.. Is there any way of turning this function off.

The other thing is that I would like the speed camera POI's loading, Is this possible without having to do the whole map loading sequence or can you just add them as POI's. Found this.. has anyone used them. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281166584137?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Other than these two little issues it's a great piece of kit... looks so sexy as well

Having a spot of bother adding speed camera POI just wondered if i'm doing it right.   Created a folder named Personal POI on my SD card, Added the file personalPOI.db3 inserted into machine SETUP-Navigation-My points of interest... Trouble is the My points of interest is grayed out !!! is there something I'm missing or doing wrong.

"UPDATE" All working now. Possible SD card fault... Maybe.... I don't know for sure but general consensus is that the machine's are a bit picky on on what card they like, I purchased  an 8Gb Samsung class 5 card and it went straight in with no problems.
