What is the max bhp on a standard cdl lump before it needs upgraded internals

Steve Jnr @ Statllers has over 500bhp from a stock ed30 lump, CDL is stronger than that. Providing it's properly mapped, should do a fair bit more than that, to which point it would be a pig to drive  :chicken:

K04 with WMI (+ stage 2+ hardware) and a R-Tech map is all you need to spin your fronts in the dry in 4th gear  :drinking:

It all depends on what you mean by "handle"!

A combination of good bolt-on hardware, turbo upgrade ( hybrid K04 or 28 series Garrett turbo) and software will get you to 400whp and 400+lbft.

That is about as far as most tuners would allow the CDL lump to be tuned with any kind of longevity guarantee. Over that I'd seriously consider up rating internals ( forged pistons, rods, valve train etc).
