ED30 too cheap?
« on: October 05, 2013, 10:49:14 pm »
Hi all,

I'm on this forum looking to buy a GTI/ED30.

I've seen an ED30 advertised and it's exactly what I want: Grey, 5dr, 70k, FSH, sat nav, well looked after.

But the price is putting me off... It's £8,390! Is this too cheap?

I'm going to speak to the seller tomorrow and ask more questions, do a HPI check etc and if it comes back ok I'll go and view it.

What do you guys think?

I would say it is very very cheap. Some people want a quick sale.

Mine is going soon but nowhere near that price, just for comparison!
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I found the one you are looking at and it is missing a few bits of spec but still a cheap, nice looking car

My bad, never seen a 56 plate one myself. Thought production started in 2007 but according to 'How many left' 5 were registered in 2006.

As you were!

If something is cheap then there is an issue somewhere with it .

Don't buy it is my advice , people don't advertise stuff cheap for no reason

Found the one you're looking at - Looks ok , but as i said above really . When you sell anything don't you research the market first ? Maybe this person hasn't and its a bargain , you never know . It would sell all day at £9k , so why not advertise it at £9000 + . Its got no number plates on it at all , which is odd usually they have been blurred out or similar , this is so you can't check the number prior to going to see it , Get the number and do a search , vin or index will get the history , then you will know what the issue is . There will be something which they are not telling in the advert  :innocent:

Woooahhh - generalisations there! Not the case at all. That's like saying that you dont need to check out an expensive one carefully because of course they'll be good if they're expensive! I've bought plenty of bargain cars that have been fantastic - people price their cars for lots of reasons.

To the original poster - I don't know the car, but just check it out like you would any other - if you're not sure then take someone along with you who is. I also think you can get a very good feel for how genuine the car is by meeting/talking to the seller. Nothing to stop you haggling the price down either! It's well priced but doesnt sound that far off to be honest. Let us know how you get on.

EDIT: just found the car. That looks/sounds very genuine - worth a look at least. The grey is not an easy colour to match, so paintwork often shows up. Service history, choice of tyres etc all suggest a well cared for car. Worth asking how long he's had it too - often another good sign if he's had it a while, which is sounds like he has. Number plates perhaps removed during preparation for sale - private reg on it?

Just seen the advert , the car looks nice

Worth check mot history as it appears not to line up with the registration date & tax

Mot june 2014

Tax nov 2013

But it could have been sat on a forcourt at some point

I have my view and you have yours , if private sale prices are too cheap there is a hidden issue 99 times out of 100 . I have dealt with issues involving the miss selling of cars , stolen cars , categorised cars , fraud involving cars , cloned cars , rung cars , fake docs , errors by DVLA etc for cars for over 30 years , but then what do i know  :rolleye:

Just looked at the last 35 cars we found stolen on cloned/rung/ fake docs and returned to the owner , everyone (THATS ALL THIRTY FIVE OF THEM) had been sold less than their Market value attracting buyers in their droves . 18 were sold on ebay , all the ones sold on ebay were Private sales , none of the actual transaction took place at the address on the log book ! 10 had been sold on autotrader , 6 on roadside ads in the window and seller meets you at the car etc .

Not all were returned to their owners due to other Technical/Law reasons .

Nine cars were bought by Traders/Experienced/Older supposedly savvy people with many years experience of the motor trade - One paid £29000 for an M3 less than a year old , keys stolen and fake documentation created - Car bought near Gatwick Airport in a lay by paid in cash !
