Sat Nav newb TomTom 730
« on: October 23, 2013, 06:58:34 pm »
Hi all, I don't use* my Sat Nav very much, but need it when going to America soon, I've got a 4GB pre-installed North America & Canda SD Card, I have Euro maps on the Internal Memory.

Sooo, can you use the America map direct from the SD card, or do you have to upload it to the internal memory?

If it's the latter then I'm fooked, as the 730 only has 2GB internal, lol.

I've tried switching the maps via Tomtom program but all that does is give me access to the card...

What software version are you running? I would say you are trying to run 9.xx maps on say 8.xx software, probably need to update your navcore to one that matches the maps.

The 930 isn't that old so I guess it has no issues seeing SDHC cards? I have done a tonne of TomToms for truckers and usually you need to update the bootloader to recognise newer cards.

Post up a pic of the info page and I will see if I can spot anything
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

I'm a numpty, it's a 730 mate,  :ashamed:

The maps on the card are genuine TT ones made for the 730 as well as other devices, they have similar file extensions to the Euro maps that work ok.

I've now "streamlined" the US maps to cut the filesize down, by removing some of the various State voices, lol.. and whacked it on the Internal Memory... but it still isn't showing which would lead me to believe it's... (as you point) an OS prob, or a MAP prob.

What I will try now is switching it OFF an back ON again... I cry when I say this, but the amount of times things work after an install etc....

Have you bought a map on SD, or is it a new program WITH maps on SD?

If you put the SD in, then do a long reset with a pin on the bottom, press it on it should default from the SD and somewhere give an option to select a map

Can't see the software version, best way is boot it up and in preferences there is an option for 'version information' hopefully, post up what App version you have

Version: 2.9.7.3256

To answer your previous question, it is a Tom Tom labelled USA & Canada SD card

The Hard reset didn't work bud, tried a few times, with and without SD card in...

Just to clarify, all being well, that the maps generally work from the SD Cards and don't neceassrily have to be on the Internal MEm?

Looks like a 9.7 software, what version is the maps?
I am much better at stuff like this when it is in front of me, sorry.

But yes you should be able to run the program from internal memory and point to a map on SD
