Need plans for my 1.4!
« on: October 30, 2013, 07:26:13 pm »
Hey all,

So, i've seen so many mk5's done 'right' but haven't got a huge amount of motivation to change mine around. I want to start with some cheap DIY mods before i do too much and im still playing with the idea of lowering it however coilovers are a bit out of the question at the moment with my current funds!
Wheels is a whole different option too but again, they will have to wait until i get some more cash.

So in short. What would you do/change/ keep the same if it was yours?

I'm thinking of getting some led sidlights, perhaps slight rear window tint, maybe de-badge and de-wiper, tinted rear lights (or r32 lights) and i'm tempted to vinyl wrap some of the interior trim.

Oh and i think there should be some trim around the front badge?

Heres some pics:

Depends on your budget and are you keeping this for a while?

New, bigger wheels will make a HUGE difference to the appearance of your car. Slight drop would be good too. That's somewhere to start.

It's a 1.4 so stickers? Easy 10-15bhp.....

I joke wheels and lows would be the way to go

Another vote for lowering here! A set of coilovers will set you back from around £150 upwards...

Once you've lowered you'll get the bug :signLOL:

^^^^ Any coilovers that cost as little as £150 should be avoided IMHO. Springs are a good start, look at H&R.

It's not a track car though... I've ran £150 coilies and completely fine. Don't have all he fancy adjustments but you don't need that in all honnestly.

But let's not start that argument on this thread.

If you don't wanna be low I'd recommend dropping it on springs. 40mm would sit nice on a set of 18's

Again for wheels & lowering
An RCD/RNS510 stereo is a good upgrade too, well worth doing :)

Lower it on springs if finds are an issue. Will make a big difference to appearence and the drive. Get some 18z on there too. A cheap mod which i do to all my cars is a HiD kit if required and changing all the bulbs to xenon.
