Recurring airbag warning light?
« on: November 08, 2013, 04:12:37 pm »
This has started to annoy me now!

Just before my MOT in June, I stupidly unplugged the wrong fuse when wiring up an aftermarket headunit. The airbag warning light wouldn't shift on its own, so I went to visit Scaff who kindly reset it for me. MOT passed; all good.

A couple of months later, the light appeared out of nowhere. I went to visit him again to code in cruise and MFSW, and the fault wouldn't clear. We disabled one of the side airbags (I think) and the light was gone (though with a slightly annoying "airbag disabled" beep when starting the car)

And now last week, the warning light is back again. I've checked the plugs under the seats, and they seem fine. It's a 5 door, so they only get the odd bit of adjustment.

Do you guys have any idea how I can get to the bottom of this?

Did the fault code indicate a problem with a particular part of the airbag system?

I can't remember exactly, but I believe the error code related to a specific airbag (hence when it was disabled, the general warning light went away)

Disabling the airbag isn't fixing the problem.
It's very rare you genuinely have a faulty air bag I've heard of very few on the Mk5+ onwards.
It's most likely that the connector under the seat has been kicked at some point , it's very very common on the 3 door cars, less so on the 5 door as the seats aren't tilted forwards and backwards, but nevertheless...

Without the fault codes it's pretty useless information so far.

I had the recurring airbag fault on my 5 door. Started when i was moving seat forward and back to hoover carpets. I sorted it by carrying out the airbag under set fix. Not had any issues since.

Have a look at the link below.

Thanks for that Callis  :happy2:

I won't be able to post the fault code until I'm able to get back on the VCDS.
