Newbie Golf GT Tdi
« on: November 11, 2013, 12:29:30 pm »
Hi all,

Just brought a Golf gt tdi 140 07 plate, full service history with vw with 83000 miles on the clock. Havent had much look with cars over the last few years and hopefuly with the vw wont be updating this car for a few years now. Woundering if anything to be looking out for or any problems with these models. Greatful for any advice/tips.

Cheers jamie

Check if its got a DPF fitted, light should show on dash at start up only. This was an option on the 140 and mine has it as it was a company car, the road tax is £135  :P
Other than that the 140 seems less problematic than the 170 which needed fuel injectors replacing.

170 injectors are covered under a national recall so no problems there :)

On the 140, things to note
Cylinder head can become porous - ok on rev C (mid 2006+) to check which you have look for a number under the furled lines on the top of the engine, bottom right corner under the fuel lines.
Turbo whine but you can get this on both 140 and 170
Hot start problem - car takes a little longer to start when hot, likely cause is a worn starter motor.

That's about it really :)

VCDS Hex+Can - Will code for beer!

Welcome Jamie. I have my first VW in my 07 Gt tdi 140 and I love it.   Wasn't planning on modding it but it's well underway now and I like it even more.
