No Power, lights on dash
« on: December 14, 2013, 02:59:29 pm »
On my way home a earlier and went to overtake a lorry, put my foot down on the accelerator and nothing happened apart from the ESP turning off and the EPC light coming on. The car now feels as if there's no turbo and just takes ages to get to any speeds above 30mph. It did do it the other night but was only going from one side of the estate to the other so didn't notice the lack of power and it was fine when I went back out to it.

I've just gone out and tried it again and the engine management light has decided to join in. Which isn't good as I'm ment to be doing a 500mile round trip weds/thurs.

Any ideas on what it could be?

I fear it could be your throttle body sensor gone bad but you really need to get the car scanned to pin point the cause.
Without traction power is nothing!

On my way home a while ago and wet to overtake a lorry, put my foot down on the accelerator and nothing happened apart from the ESP turning off and the EPC light coming on. The car now feels as if there's no turbo and just takes ages to get to any speeds above Thursday.

I probably cannot add anything as I am a novice but maybe can lend some knowledge from the issues I have had with my car over the past 2 weeks.

I had a similar issue of going to overtake someone and the EML coming on and a loss of any power when trying to accelerate.

After a scan it pointed to misfire and a coil pack issue so maybe worth trying to swap them depending what the scan comes up with. My engine however was vibrating like crazy when idle.

It was then discovered it wasn't the coil packs but a pistol/valve had cracked which in the end they replaced the whole engine with a brand new one. Today they have replaced the fuel pump regulator as apparently that was the root cause to all this.

Hopefully yours is no way as serious as mine but giving you my 2p worth  :happy2:

My first thought was throttle body..

I was looking at the list just trying to find someone who's about when I am. Trouble is I can't get to a garage until the end of next week due to work commitments and going Catterick. There is another car I can use, just the timing is annoying.

Hopefully not as mine seems like an extreme case so most people on here and at the garage said likely coil packs so I am assuming most of the time with this sort of issue that is what it will be if it reports back misfires.

Throttle body seems likely.

i'm 99% sure its the throttle body.

Have the same issue and symptoms with mine. you can still drive it but don't boot it until you get it sorted or it will just go into limpo again.

Still best to get her scanned to be 100% sure.

IIRC, your based Essex way so i'm a bit too far to do a scan for ya being in South London.  :sad1:

Thanks for the offer MVB, yeah I'm essex and according to the VCDS register everyone is a fair drive from me unfortunately.

At least if I do use it to go to catterick at least my MPG will be good, so every cloud and all that lol.

Has anyone got any idea of how much is be looking at if it is the throttle body?

Sounds like the same problem I had and it was the throttle body failure

Let's not get ahead of yourself, you've not even scanned it yet - Take it one step at a time.. Forums can be the worst for things like that! lol  :jumping:
