Company van
« on: December 18, 2013, 09:04:29 pm »
Here's a quick one if anyone has similar experience please advise. If an employee has had a company van for the last 5 years, and takes it home like most people can the company then bring in a new rule where as they say all vans to stay at the workplace and make your own way in. Bear in mind the employees work all over the country and start and finish at all hrs.

Has there been a consultation? Is there a reason you need to take the van home?

Best bet is to contact the union (If there is one) if you're a member.

It depends if the employment contract says you work from a depo. Our company has depos all over the country and your home depo Is supposed to be the one closest to you but they can designate anyone they want as your depo. this means if they want to they can make you travel to your depo by your own means and in your own time.
Realistically though this would only be enforced if the company wanted you out or they wanted to to accept new terms and conditions.

They can do what ever they like essentially.

If your contract states you get a works van and you get to use it to and from your place of work they would have to give you a 30day notice period to change your contract.

If your contract says you work from a deposit, then it's up to you to get into work.

I imagine they have done this to stop people using work vans in personal time.
