19's or not to go 19's
« on: December 19, 2013, 05:50:56 pm »
Managed to source some 19's, there not in fantastic condition but it's superficial...

Question. How will this effect my edition 30 handling going stage 2+ ( will be getting arb's new bushes (prosports) and coil overs in January)

Is it that much of a difference? I know the 17 to 18 jump makes things slightly less "exciting" but to me they don't fit or look right.

I've got a couple of hours to decide.
Convince me 1 way or another

I found 19"s a bit harsh to be honest, they made the car feel slow(er) and didn't give ma any nice feedback in the corners or under breaking like my 18"s do!

They were 8.5x19 et 45 with 235/35/19 michelins

They do look great though, especially if you can get the stance right.

With stage 2+ I imagine the feel on 19's might not be as electric but performance wise will still be strong. I rarely thrash my car anyway if ever more A road driving sodding cornering is going to be my biggest concern when driving them.

^^^^ This

What's the size/offest of the 19"s?

If your getting Coilovers, a wee drop will help fill those arches so stick with the some 18"s.

I am running 19" alloys but I only do a mile a day to work and back but if I was traveling a lot I would switch to 18"

I'm running 19's and they're fine, just as comfortable as 18's.

A member on here had 19" on his ed30 which have a slight drop to them looked ok now I think about it..You could lower it on springs with 19"  on if you fancied going that route

Here's mine on 19's with H&R lowering springs only. They haven't adversely affected the handling but do, I feel, improve the stance over standard springs.

No rubbing at all.
Tyres are 225/35/19's.
Due to the lower profile of the tyres the outright levels of grip and feel are less on the 19's compared to 18" wheels so I wouldn't recommend them for track use. For fast road or everyday driving 19" wheels are fine and you won't notice many adverse effects. :happy2:
