Break in - No Damage!?
« on: December 20, 2013, 08:38:17 am »
So I get in my Car this morning to leave for work and find the contents of my storage pockets spread allover the passenger seat!

Ipod and ray ban's gone from centre console!  :sad1:

They hadn't taken my nice torch or tyre pressure guage and nothing else was taken or damaged?

What I can't work out is how they've gotten in? I always lock it and even if I hadn't, it auto locks when you walk away from it.

No damage or sign of how they've gotten in!?

Any idea's guys???  :scared:

Only auto locks in certain situations.

When you got out the car did you go back to it? Unlock and re lock it?

No I think I just got out and locked it but Im pretty anal about making sure its locked so sometimes I hit the button twice if I don't see the indicators flash.

They only auto lock if you unlock and then don't open a door within 30secs or so.

You must've left the car open. On the plus side it might have saved you the cost of damage repair from a break in.

Good point! I'm guessing that it may have been unlocked and it was some oportunist crack head going around checking doors!

Was on TV just yesterday that they check to see if most cars are unlocked.

Don't press the lock button twice if you want the car deadlocked...

2nd press disables internal sensors doesn't it?

If parking outside, I press the lock button and then pull the handle to make sure it's locked.

If you're paranoid about whether it's actually locked, get someone with VCDS to activate the alarm chirp so you get a beep whenever you hit the locl/unlock button.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

The deadlock stops the doors being opened from the inside when the car is locked.
So if an undesirable breaks in they can't use the interior handle to open the door for better access.

I beleive that a second press of the lock button dissables the deadlocks and the interior motion sensing.

Once when I locked my car I thought I,ll just check the doors all were locked except the rear passenger kept on opening after repeated locking and checking I had to use vcds to rectify it

I always use to worry about my cat being locked and have to go back and pull the handle to check. But got someone to enable the beep when i lock the car. I can walk away with my mind at ease.

Being ex plod  :innocent:

We used to get alot of how did they get in i locked it quotes . Always left unlocked , went to one where the man was quite insistent it was locked . I said is your wifes car locked outside now , he asked her and she said yes , i went outside and it was open ! Loads of stories similar too .

Many people forget to lock their cars in their drives as there is no "Get key put in hole turn key remove key" routine anymore
