MK 5 GTI sounding like a diesel.
« on: September 23, 2009, 08:43:56 am »
Well mine is in the garage today having it sorted  :jumpmove:. The rattle on tick over was driving me mad & even my wife who knows fcuk all about cars said ''that doesen't sound right''.It's all down to the cam chain & tensioner & a few other bits that sit on the right hand side of the engine as you open the bonnet.
Mine is on an 05 plate engine code AXX. Talking about it on here & other sites it seems to be coming more common on this engine code. :surprised:.

Do you have a list of the part numbers that were changed or was it done via an indy and you just got a receipt for the total work?.  If a definate fix, it would be useful to have the details out in the public domain.

How was the job described?  "cam chain & tensioner & a few other bits that sit on the right hand side of the engine "

A before and after MP3 file would have been great in hindsight eh?

Still made up for you that its sorted now. No more tick tick, just vroom vroom....etc

Well got the car back yesterday & all i can say is ...... :jumpmove: :jumping: it now sounds like a petrol GTI  should & and not an oil burner. The mechanic that did the job said the chain was so slack he could lift it off the drive sprokets !!!!!!!!!!.With mine it was just the chain & tensioner plus gaskets etc.
If your's is starting to rattle i would recomend having it done i can't belive the difference in the sound now, just the nice smooth tickover & the burble from the Milltek.  :jumpmove:  :driver:.

Glad I have not bought the adjuster yet then.  After reading this, I will change the chain and tensioner first.

So the cambelt chain tensioner seemed to be the culprit with this GH?

I've got the same problem, alongside others and have it booked in on Thursday [08/10] for a new turbo solenoid. I asked them to replace this too while they have it and didn't seem to have a problem initially. I just want to make sure as if I have the same symptoms and this doesn't address it, were you informed of anything else that can cause it? I also get a right hand side dash vibration which is also usually the same cause I understand?

Thanks,
Pete.
