Recommended VW specialist in Sussex/Surrey/Kent?
« on: January 28, 2014, 10:48:57 am »
I had my car MOTed and serviced at a main dealer for its first time in my ownership back in June (as it had full VW servicing from the previous 2 owners)

I wasn't overly impressed with the service/value, so I'd rather go to a recommended specialist for the next one. I'm nearly 10k miles on from the last service, so I think I only need oil and filters done (but will check my service book for anything else)

I've seen lots of recommendations for JKM, but I'd prefer to find someone that's closer to Gatwick Airport sort of area if possible. Do you guys know of anyone?

I use

Vasmotion Guildford as specialist - most of my work done here
JKM Portsmouth as tuner/specialist
Martins VW Farnham as VW main stealer for service history work (service, dsg etc)
Colbornes VW Walton-on-Thames as VW main stealer for service history work (service, dsg etc)

Hope that helps

On the Kent/Surrey border:

I can't recommend them highly enough.

Do your own servicing for oil and the filters... only thing I have a garage do is cambelt and other mechanical bits I don't want to do or don't know how.

Couple of miles from you but I've never used them so can't comment on their work, TC Garage in East Grinstead is a VAG Specialised and deal with tuning, modding and servicing of all things VAG.......

Tuning werkes - Croydon

My mate uses Rueben, but i'm not keen to let him loose on mine.

Just found him a little too negative....

But you may have a good experience if you do try/use him.

That's actually dead close to me, thanks :) Their labour rate is £66p/h+VAT...I know some places are less, but is that about right for a specialist?

That was one of the top hits on Google, though obviously that doesn't entirely mean they're any good! Thanks for the recommendation.

Well, I finally got round to sorting this out, and found a bit of a gem in the process  :happy2:

I'd originally booked in at Crawley Down Group, who are listed on the VW site as a main dealer franchise. Booked it online, selected the "courtesy lift" option (which I'd used at Coulsdon VW last year), picked a service (which was cheaper than a few specialists I'd got quotes from), all good.

Turned up on the day...no record of the service being booked in. Show them the email confirmation; lots of confused looks. Told me they don't do courtesy lifts. Basically wasted 2hrs of my paid time to mess me about.  Piss poor showing all round

Eventually I ended up booking in with these guys, just outside of East Grinstead on the A22.

Couldn't recommend them highly enough  :congrats: Two proper sound guys working there, let me poke around under my car on the ramps while we chatted about VWs, exhausts, tuning etc. Both have their own high power road/track VAG motors, and clearly love what they do!

The oil service, brake fluid change, diagnostics check and a general inspection was £200, which is spot on from what I've seen.

So yeh, I'll absolutely be using these guys again in the future :)
