Anyone used Red Dot Racing for a remap?
« on: January 30, 2014, 07:39:47 pm »
Sorry if this has been asked before. I have been trying to search for info on here and google and not coming up with much. I was recommended by someone with a mk4 1.8t gti to take my car to red dot racing in Enfield North London. I'm new to remapping. Never had it done and don't know many people who've had one done. I know a lot of people rate r tec, but they're not exactly local. I don't mind the traveling, but I'd prefer to get it done somewhere local especially for going back for tweaks/adjustments.

Yep I'm in London and as said I've heard nothing but good things about r-tec, but as they're over 100ish miles away and Red Dot is practically on my door step I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with them. If Red Dot are good as well it would make more sense to use them and save time/money travelling. If on the other hand they weren't so great then the trip to r-tec would make sense.

Who's maps do they offer? Revo, APR or their own?

No in the grand scheme of things 100 miles isn't far, but it's almost 2 hours drive vs a 15 minute drive.

I didn't want to start this thread as a "what remap should I get?" As there are plenty of those to read through. I'm specifically after information on anyone's experience using Red Dot Racing in Enfield for a remap.

Never heard of them to be totally honest, If the are just a flashing agent for the likes of revo,Apr,shark etc then you can't really go wrong, but if they use there generic maps I honestly would go to r tech

Sounds like you just want a flash and go generic map. May as we'll give them a try, if your not prepared to travel to a known reputable dealer then your probably not bothered about figures or a health check on your vehicle?

The advice anyone will say is stick to a reputable dealer recommended by the guys on the forum. If you have searched and not found anything then they probably aren't specialist and known on the "scene"  it's definitely a risk. . .  :scared:

It's your car so it's up to you, I'd rather pay a bit more fuel and know my car is in safe hands and I'm getting decent aftersales care to go with it

If you do go there, let the rest of us know the result  :happy2:

As I said in the first post I don't mind traveling, I'm just checking my options. If there's a place nearby that's offers a good remap/service then I'd rather go there than travel 100ish miles away. If, as the case seems to be, that no one can recommend Red Dot then I'll be prepared to travel further out to get the remap. I've found a few posts about them on other forums, mostly Astra and Alpha forums and a couple of BMW forums, but the posts date a few years back and can't find any posts about Golfs. The guy who recommended them to me had a stage one done on his Mk4 Gti(180) and said he was happy with it. He said they do before and after dynos and take into account what mods you have on the car and tweak/adjust accordingly.

The whole point of this thread was to find out if anyone had had a remap done there on a mk5 GTI and what their experience was. The short answer seems to be that no one has. So I'll start looking at other places.

Thanks for the input . So after using both, if you had to go for another remap, you'd rule out Red Dot?

Beginning to feel like I'm a crazy person for asking around and checking my options

Won't be getting it done until the summer, just doing my "research"...
