DSG limits
« on: February 01, 2014, 06:13:49 pm »
Ok so I've read a few bits here and there but tbh not got a solid answer.

Does anyone know what the limits of the DSG boxes are torque and power wise? Also, are there hardware modifications that fix any shortcomings?

Specifically - for the mk5 dsg and the mk6 R dsg (are the boxes the same?)

Cheers

As long as you get a DSG map then the DSG box will be okay to 500bhp and 450lbft.

My DSG started slipping in my old ED30 at 510lbft.

SSP and HPA do upgrade clutchpacks so that the DSG can handle up to 600bhp/600lbft. DSG coolers can also be bought to help cool the tranny oil.
Golf R gone.

Cheers Hurdy, sounds like a stage 3 R will be ok on a standard DSG with a DSG map. I'll research the clutch packs, looks like a good thing to look into when upping the power significantly.

Wonder if anyone has tried to mate the r8 stronic box to the TFSI or if its a completely different design

R8 tranny is hugely different to the transverse setup in the R. But a v10 in the boot would be cool!

APR's R clutch died at 460ish bhp, but Keith is an animal and we were doing launches at 7k!
