Anyone had the re-occurance of front wing corrosion
« on: February 02, 2014, 08:44:13 pm »
Hi folk, I have an 05 Gti. 46k on the clocks.

In 2011 I had the start of corrosion (just small bubbles) on both front wings, the common mk5 arch liner design fault. Took it to vw and the wings were sprayed and liners modified under warranty/goodwill gesture. Was told I wouldnt get new wings but after I noticed folks on here did get new wings.

Well, today just noticed that's the n/s front wing bubbles of rust coming through again. Far Worse this time.

Question is, has anyone had the rust return? Had them repaired again under warranty? Do you think I could argue that I should have gotten new wings? Will VW tell me to do one?

Thanks guys and sorry for bringing this age old saga of front wing corrosion.

Yep.

Derby did mine but only repaired the wing. Took it to Nottingham who replaced both and pointed out a few other areas which were fixed too.

If you have corrosion it's a given it needs to be replaced with a new part not 'repaired'.

Problem you will face is VW saying it's not original paint even if they 'repaired' it themselves.

Whatever you do don't take it to barnetts total waist of time!!!

VW Perth or Aberdeen

Got mine done from Vw Aberdeen they replaced both front wings

Originally I had to contribute to it but I complained to Vw customer care who then made a case and eventually they agreed to pay for both wings!!!

So whatever you do call them first and tell them you are so disappointed with this and feel totally let down by Vw and want them to fix this for you(definitely not jimmy saville) :fighting:

Had the wife's Passat front wings replaced by VW, rusted again 2 years later ! Took it back and after a lot of arguing they subbied the work out to a specialist as the VW body shop was closed down(coz of all the complaints I think)They removed, sandblasted and painted the wings. Two weeks later they were rusting again. Had them done a third time and then some stupid bonehead smashed into the side of her and wrote it off for her :indifferent: She now says she would never have a VW again after the crap service and the way they dealt with her.

UPDATE-

The enquiry was left in the hands of VW customer care. They liased with the bodyshop.

I received a call last week saying bosses were saying they would pay 50% only towards the repair. The advisor said she would argue for them to pay the full cost and get back to me. I thought this was just a ploy and would unlikely be offered anymore.

Well, received a call today for the same advisor saying VW would pay for the entire repair cost for two replacement painted wings. Just need to book it in.

I didn't even have to argue or fight at all. Amazing, cannot believe it. There's some hope left out there yet guys!

I tried and was failed miserably last year by two local VW dealerships on this matter. Both gave the "new" scripted responce of "50/50" but on one wing only, as the other had a minor scratch re-painted 3 yrs ago......this left me disappointed and despondent....This poor experience is the reason and the only reason why my next purchase will not be a VW after 15yrs+ of proud ownership   :sad1:

Jonnboyy...exactly the same as me...tried my hardest but couldnt get VW to offer more than 50%, and I took it right to the top. It amazes me how some people are getting 100% paid. Very frustrating.

Ring up customer services and say look in this site people are getting it all paid and covered under warranty so why can't I be, push them show them the links where some are some aren't as you have rightly said you have paid 50% to the cost of the repair and some are paying nothing, push to get your money back as this is totally wrong and disgusting!

How high did you push it to? Was it just customer services?

That's me just got my car back with brand new painted wings fitted. Cracking job too. Cost me nothing.....this time.

It's not right though when I'm reading numerous stories of folks being forced to pay for same with varying percentages.  The only thing I did differently this claim was contact 'VW uk help' via twitter to start with and bypassed my local VW completely and dealt with VW customer care.

That's the best thing to do I think from experience of three separate corrosion warranty claims is go direct to customer care in the first instance. Also take your own good quality pics of the corrosion as the garages pics are often crap and show very little or nothing.

So to sum up, my golf has had both front wings corrode and were repainted which I had to pay towards (went through my local VW branch). The boot, around the handle/badge corrode and the rear n/s wing corrode both repaired at no cost to me ( went to vw customer care ). The front wings rusted again and the wings were replaced this time at no cost to me ( went straight to VW customer care ).

Not necessarily true.
They will measure paint depth. Paint depth of my BRAND NEW wings was within factory limits (around 130 microns)
However your car having had replacement wings/paint will be on record with the VIN.
Take it back and see.

I'm going to try this way, I'm sick of being messed about by Listers Stratford upon Avon.

Thanks bud!  :happy2:
