noise whilst braking at low speed
« on: February 11, 2014, 02:39:26 pm »
Long time lurker first time poster!

Picked up a 55 plate at the weekend and after 400 miles the breaks have started to sound extremely worn - at low speeds it's most noticeable (no squeaking but a rough grinding sort of sound). The breaks also don't seem as sharp as I'd expect. I've checked both pads and discs and they're fine (plenty of pad left, no scoring or rust on discs. Also free of any potential debris.

Does anyone have a suggestion of what it could be or what else to check?

Nope, flat and plain... really grainy noise rather than squeaking!

Was the car standing a while? Worth taking out the pads and see if they could benefit from a rub with some emery paper.

Check there are no stones caught between the splash shield and the disc too.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Unsure, potentially but good suggestion, thanks Skard. It's just the bog standard OEM setup, will snap some pics on the weekend if I can't otherwise resolve it.
