Rear ended and not willingly.

Just got rear ended this morning (no double entendre jokes please, though it might cheer me up)  .  Anyway number plate surround is bust but bumper and panel gaps all look good.  Nothing looks out of line anywhere.  One minor problem is my 3 week old new colour coded lower section of bumper has a line where the number plate surround has dug in the paint a bit and there's a faint raised section of paint where the bumpers creased.  Its hardly noticeable unless your anal about such things like me.

Part of me can't be arsed with the hassle of losing the car for a week whether it goes through the insurance or not, the other side thinks get it sorted.

Anyone ignored something like this to have it come back and bite them at a later date.

If it's not your fault I would get it done. If it starts to but you a later date you have no comeback. Also the brackets may have been damaged. My other half had a similar issue. They discovered more damage hidden underneath. Also when you sell it's a point that will be picked up

My mum (Around 70 at the time) had an accident in her 1 year old Mazda 323 Hatch some years ago , she was hit in the rear by a young lad in an old Mini , she said there was no damage and none was visible . She told the lad to be on his way and to forget about it , she got home and opened the hatch to get her golf clubs out etc . The Boot hatch would not close and the bill was over £1000 !

So get it checked out properly ASAP

I would avoid going through the insurance... get them to pay you £200 for the cost of a respray and leave it at that...

Insurance jobs are nearly always shonkey (some bodyshops are the exception to this) and even though it's a non-fault you have the hassle of the documentation, paperwork, and then the increase in premiums for the next 2-4 years (even as a non-fault accident you're deemed to be more at-risk as a victim.. ???


If the boot works properly (which it will) and the valance hasn't hit the crash bar (which it sounds like it hasn't) you'll be absolutely fine..

Cheers guys,    I've checked everything and it looks just superficial paint marks which could be touched in.  I'd like to avoid any documentation if possible and I'm sure the 19 year old lad who rear ended me would too 
Off to VW Saturday morning for them to scan over the paint.

Just get £200 off the guy and have it sprayed at a decent local bodyshop. VW charge extortionate prices and are terrible. you'd piss yourself at the state one of the biggest VW/Audi chains (ridgeway) in the south left my bonnet in.

I'm positively looking forward to being rear ended! simply so I can have my rear bumper and valance painted the exact same shade or tornado red as each other.

Bit like everyone else has said, take it to a few small body shops and get some cash of the lad.
