How to remove fuse bridge in fuse panel
« on: February 13, 2014, 09:47:17 pm »
Hello guys!

I'm trying to replace my fuse box in my Golf 5 GTI. I have to remove every single connector in it, which is going just fine except for the big bridge in it. It's stuck in the pink plastic holder, and I can't seem to remove it.

It's the yellow arrow on this picture.

Anyone have any tips on how to remove it?

Thanks!

Regards,

Roy

I would imagine it has pin retention on every blade,  so you would need to use a pin removal tool for every blade to get it out, I take it you've moved the pink holder away from its lock position hence your already removing blades?
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

If it removed it actually looks like this, so it is one piece. I did remove it from its lock position yeah, I can remove the other pins with no problem.
It just seems the pink plastic is still holding the bridge in place. I have also tried a good amount of force, which also did not work.

Assuming the terminal lock has moved forward the full distance on both sides as shown in here

http://www.myturbodiesel.com/wiki/circuit-addition-to-fusebox-in-your-mk5-or-mk6-volkswagen/

There never simple - push forward on the top of the terminal and wiggle then pull all at the same time.

Here some more pictures.

Basically what you're saying is that it should be loose, and that I have to pull it even harder?

As you can see on the picture, it seems like the plastic is blocking the bridge from coming out. The position of the pink plastic is fully unlocked.

It's the pushing forward before pulling back is important - have you got the right size terminal extraction tool to assist it's removal, but the pink retainer need to in the extraction positional fully!

I have a 30 piece box full of extraction tools, but I'm not sure where I should put it though.

Let's see a photo of the other side of this strip!

This is the guide procedure :-

This small movement of the pink terminal holder releases the pin locks so that pins can be inserted and removed.
This is all that is needed to insert a new terminal.
(If you wanted to remove a terminal, you would still need a pin removal tool to depress the locks on the pin itself.
This can only be accomplished after the fuse block pin lock is released.)

Insert the repair wire / terminal until it clicks and locks in place.
The spring clips on the terminal itself will lock it in place.
The fuse block terminal lock prevents just those catches from freeing or accepting a pin.

think the pic is just generic from google images and a seller on ebay.

checked all the part numbers from etka for these multiple terminals and no other images show on google to see the other side.
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

It's fixed guys, thanks a lot!
Used a flathead screwdriver and twisted it to push the bridge back and up. That work worked for me.

Also used a flathead screwdriver and a light hammer to push it back into the new fuse box.

All good now  :happy2: Thanks a lot for the help. I'm new to doing things like this, and I don't like to break it, so i'm a little bit more carefull than others might be :)
Here are some more pics, all the sides.
