Rear brakes getting hot
« on: February 18, 2014, 06:36:08 pm »
Hi guys,

Noticed my rear brakes getting very hot after driving when the fronts would be near cool.

Obviously this isn't right so what could it be?

Two sticking calipers or possibly something handbrake related?

Thanks :)

Probably sticking caliper.
I had loads of issues on my old TDI.
The GTI has been fine so far touch wood.... easiest way to check is to whip the caliper off and try to wind back the caliper. Check the boot is not split on the slide pin either.

Thanks mate, I'll give that a go.

Just a weird coincidence that both sides are sticking. Could the handbrake cable not be slightly too tight of does it not work like that?

Cheers

The only link between the 2 would be the cable, but usually they cable only gets slack not tight! Possibility of a fault within the brake lines or the cylinder which is causing pressure to build up and not be released. Would be a coincidence if both were sticking at the same time unless they have both been slowly starting to stick over time and now both at a point where heat is generating. Not much help......looks like it’s time to get your hands dirty!
