In his own words he isn't very technical. I only read about the calibration whilst researching, which you can do on the unit.

Currently asking why he is selling it - but he has confirmed on message that works in his Golf.

Also spoke to VW parts and that one and the 3AA are exactly the same price so no obvious difference there, and picture wise they look identical from the front and back - except that the 5C0 seems to be made in the USA whilst others in Germany so perhaps that has something to do with it. Think they may have come out first on the beetle too

Can't imagine why they would be different, same buttons and function at the end of the day

Thinking out loud it would be wise to check the pins on the drawings incase the air quality sensor is different, since he's telling you it didn't work.

I understand it could be adaption but that would just be to easy!

Where would I find the drawings? I read elsewhere about someone who put the 3AA in and the light didnt work until he did the calibration

This chap says the aircon works but button didn't light up, which is the same as one above

Edit: he just replied to say that it displays correctly on his RNS but it needs to be updated which is too technical for him - I think he means for the ac light - get the feeling he's not very technical minded

The choices lol.

Well I decided to forgo the cheap Beetle one and have instead plumped for this one (which may or may not be made in China - I care little so long as it works )

Will see what it is like next week and all going well the current unit will be up for sale :happy2:

It certainly appears that way, they guarantee it will work 100%, we shall see next week. I'll also do a can before and after to check the coding

This is indeed why I went for this one, which is probably a Chinese made one judging by the price, not that that bothers me. After investigation with doylebros it looks like the beetle wiring diagrams are different so avoided that one, and from why I have read the mk7 uses competely different electronics so off the menu :)

Well after some mail delay (me not being in mainly) the parts have arrived today. Came in a genuine VW box and I can confirm that I have been sent the 5C0 one which is the beetle one - apparently pretty-coded using vcds - we shall see when I fit it tomorrow. Came with a genuine surround too, plus as he was late in posting he sent a few gift - so if anyone wants an RLine badge for free let me know :)

Yep here it is. The knobs have a nice well made feel to them and a definite click feel when turning

Looks good. What's the colour match like on the trim? Looks a bit off around the RNS but dunno if that's due to lighting/photo.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Pleased it worked out for you Simon - what about any adjustments in basic settings and how did your scan come back after the mod?

Colour match is spot on from what I can tell, probably the light as the climate is inset more than the rns

Thanks  :happy2: looks nice at night, did take a pic with the iPad but doesn't come out well, can upload if people want to see

Well, I was a bit worried when I scanned as it showed faults with the temperature sensors in the footwells and the evaporator vent (and oddly an intermittent fault with the light and rain sensor) However after doing the basic flap settings in vcds and rescanning I now get no faults.

also had an intermittent communication fault with the back-up camera module which has also gone now. It's also probably due to the leaking rear wash hose I had to fix last weekend - and when I mean leaking I mean ruddy great split in the cheap hose VW use  :fighting:
